apart from him being (overated) which isnt his fault in the first place its everyone trying to kiss his ass. Favre may not be that great this year..and culpepper def was the better QB of the two THIS YEAR!!!.....but favres record and stats and broken records far surpass that of what culpepper will ever do imo.
-
But Culpepper is new to the game.. Favre's been in it for a few years.. And Culpepper is breaking records too.. And I am sure he will keep doing it. Probably in the end have better stats than Favre during his career than Favre.
-
I've said it before (probably 10 times in this thread alone) that MN has better PLAYERS but GB has a better TEAM.
As for the whole overrated thing, think about it this way. When Michael Jordan was playing with the Wizards his team sucked and he wasn't doing as well as when he played for the Bulls. That doesn't mean that he wasn't the best player to ever step on the court. And now we have LeBron James stepping up and might just be a better player than Jordan even, but that doesn't mean that jordan was overrated now does it?

Jordan = deserving, as he was the best ever.
Favre = built up to be something that he is not and never was. -
Oh, and at least Favre hasn't attempted to run over any meter maids unlike a certain highly overrated (but still talented) WR whose name is appropriately the same as the fungus that grows on the side of a tree where the sun doesn't shine.....
-
I'm not saying Favre is the greatest ever, not even close. But he is hall of fame material. He isn't the most accurate anymore, but he still finds ways to lead his team to victory. Thats the only stat that really matters imo.
-
Favre gets sooo much praise and adoration because of the demeanor he has, not because of what he does on the field. Certain people see him foolishly as this great representative of football, a "Good Ole Boy". Yeah, his father passed away a day before Monday Night Football. Well...athletes perform after losing family members all the time. Why was such a huge deal made when Brett's Dad died?
I guess my biggest problem with Favre is that NFL announcers usually only remember what they want to remember.....the positive things he has done and they exploit them to an almost superhuman level. No announcers or analysts ever mention the fact that he makes many terrible decisions (see last 3 Packer playoff games) or the fact that he was addicted to drugs. -

If Brett Favre would have done that all the blame would have been put on the meter maid.....and you know this to be true.
The media exploits certain things.
They protect players they like and expose players they don't like. Things can get blown out of proportions for someone like Moss and hardly mentioned for someone like Favre. Imo, of course  . -
prescription drugs, but yes...and how many years ago was that again? Pre superbowl I believe. I agree that right now the announcers have him overrated, he isn't as good as he used to be...he can't scramble like he used to, he can't throw across his body like he used to and he isn't as accurate as he used to be. But he's probably still just as good or better than 2/3 of the starting quarterbacks in the league. We're just gonna disagree all day on this (like we do every week b4 a pack/vikes game) so I've said all I'm gonna say about this (I think...lol)

Doesn't change the fact that it happened though, did it?

So we settled it? Culpepper > Favre? Great.

Agreed...As of now and in the future.. Favre has a history of stats.. Culpepper is making them..
and I would put money on him having better stats in 10 years. Not saying he'll be the best but in 10 years have better stats than Favre. The only thing with Favre is that he's consistent. He's had no really Good or Bad seasons.. He's just been consistent. Knowing we get to play GB 1st playoff game makes me happy we lost our last regular season game.
Cuz nothing beats beating the packer in Lambau (Sp?) Especially in playoffs.... -
Stats wise this season, undoubtedly Culpepper>Favre. The only real stat that matters this season Favre 2-Culpepper 0. I'm going to make this prediction though, in 6 years culpepper won't be a starting QB and if he is it won't be in MN.

a pair of last second field goals are your friend. it sucks that we have to wait because we're the last game played in the first round. Anxiety will kill me on saturday

I know, i just like giving vikings fans a hard time. it should be another great game though...even though the vikings suck outdoors this year almost as bad as GB sucks inside. It is kinda sad to think that 10-6 is one of the better NFC records, isn't it... and that 8-8 gets you a wildcard spot.

I would say that Favre's biggest downfall has been inconsistency. Yes, he has played every single game but one minute he'll throw the ball up for grabs and his receiver will haul it in...the next minute he'll throw a ball up for grabs and it will be intercepted.
I see it like this -- Favre had a few GREAT years. In the mid-90's no one was better at the time. But in the last few years he has made some key mistakes that have lead to big time defeats. Now saying this, I don't think he is a bad QB, just not worthy of the praise anymore.
Daunte, on the other hand, is maturing each year. Two years ago he looked awful almost every single possesion. Fumble, after fumble, after int. However, if you watched him last year and this year, he is a different player, a different man. He is a LEADER on the field, he plays SMART, and of course he is still as EXPLOSIVE as any NFL player.
**In six years he'll be on his way to the Hall of Fame! ** -
he does what hes good at....that and jumpballs, he's a good receiver when he has to outjump defenders, I'll give him that.
