Make that a big fat NO. They should retract the last 700 billion dollar bailout that they did a few weeks back also.

I am going to have to say no here as well....the bank bailout was even more of a disappointment in that it is not being appropriated properly and apparently struggling banks that got the money are trying to fix their problems by buying up healthy banks instead of making sound financial changes. IOW lack of oversight on how the money is being spent is going to make the bailout a total disaster. If it were done properly, I think it would have possibly helped... I'm no expert on the economy however, I am basing my info on a lunch I had with my (very conservative) boss and a buddy of his who is an economist (also very conservative).

Nope nope. But i am wondering how America could become competitive in the world auto market. What do we have to do? We used to be a leader, and if you wanted a good car, you bought American. Now that isn't true.

We'd be foolish not to bail out the auto giants. Do you guys have any idea how many jobs are tied to the Big 3? Just think how many people would be out of work and how much further that would push us into a recession. All the auto giants need is a little help through the rough times.

No bailout, just buy stocks into all three after their restructure. Not sure how Chrysler is doing, they might be the exception.

Its not like those people couldnt find new jobs. If companies make bad business decisions and are not profitable they shouldnt get a redo. Other companies would come in and buy out these companies pennies on the dollar. Then run them correctly. Maybe the Big 3 should copy what foreign companies are doing and follow their business strategy. Dont build shit...

No, they can file chapter 11 and restructre. Hopefully in the restructure they give a big "F*** YOU" to the unions and hire on with more competitive rates like Toyota and Honda.

HEY!!! I'm the one that's supposed to be making the liberal comments around here this year...2009 is your year to throw out the leftist bait to start political arguments.

In all seriousness, you bring up a pretty good point that it will have a big impact on the economy. IF a bailout is given to them, I'd prefer it be more like the one given to Chrysler back in 1979 (or was it 78) when the Gov't backed (co-signed) their loans from financial institutions. By 1983 Chrysler was back in the black and the US Gov't had added 305 million to its treasury due to this deal. I'm still against the idea of bailing them out, but if it happens, something similar to what happened in the past is a much better solution than just handing them money.

It's rather interesting to see these large corporations fail when they all have one very large common denominator...Union interference.

                          Airlines and Autos...hmm...conicidence?

While companies like Toyota and Honda aren't exactly doing great right now either, they're far from being as bad off as unionized companies like Ford, GM and Chrysler.

instead of bailing them out they should let walmart buy them, source the production to foreign countries, lable them fard and chevrolette, and market them like disposable paper plates... because thats what they are, garbage.

I disagree. The government shouldn't bailout these bloated and mismanaged companies.

Fuck the unions. There's no reason why they should get paid 3-4 times the amount the work is worth.

Obviously American car companies can't make money... so send that shit off and get cheap labor and make it profitable.

So you are willing to put thousands of families out of work simply to punish them for working for a company that is struggling? Meanwhile, we are giving money to all of the banks and other financial institutions that simply push money around on paper and are part of the problem we are in to begin with?

In all seriousness, you bring up a pretty good point that it will have a big impact on the economy. IF a bailout is given to them, I'd prefer it be more like the one given to Chrysler back in 1979 (or was it 78) when the Gov't backed (co-signed) their loans from financial institutions. By 1983 Chrysler was back in the black and the US Gov't had added 305 million to its treasury due to this deal. I'm still against the idea of bailing them out, but if it happens, something similar to what happened in the past is a much better solution than just handing them money.

Exactly. All these companies need is a little help in some tough and trying times. I don't think anybody here can say that they did not need a little help from friends/family in their lives.
