    I recently bought a '94 4Runner and have a couple questions.

First, I haven't owned an obd1 car in 10 years. With all the obd2 cars I've owned, I could just go to OReilly's or any other parts store and pull the cel codes. Where can you pull obd1 cel codes for free or cheap?

Second, the truck has a problem shifting into 4th gear when it is cold. If I drive around town for 5 minutes and warm the truck up, it shifts into 4th just fine. If I drive straight to the interstate when its cold, it won't shift into 4th until it warms up. Any ideas what it might be?

That might not be a problem at all. I know that our Dodge trannys do the same thing. They will not shift into overdrive until they are warmed up.

Agreed to above statements...I'm sure thats exactly what it is...

For codes, look online for a site that specializes in 4runners as there might be a pin or two to jump with say a paper clip to get the code to flash on the dash like on other older OBDI cars...

BTW, How do you like the 4runner? I've kinda been lookin at em since they are cheap for 94-95($1500 or so), but have heard they are underpowered...whats your thoughts?

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

I really like some things, others not so much. It's a little underpowered with the small v6 but it rides 10x nicer than the other early-mid 90s SUVs I drove. Also, there don't seem to be many out there without rust above the rear wheel wells. I'll probably have it at tailgating on Saturday Tony so you can check it out then.
