Edit: If you google image search panther tattoo the whole page if filled with white people with black panther tattoos.........interesting..................

i agree with bassplayer

The thing that mande me ask the question was a picture of quinton jackson, he has one on his bi-cep, allen iverson has one, nelly, tupac, lil wayne. Almost everyone I know from playing ball at the dike (except for courtney) and every time i'm in a black persons dwelling it seems i come across one in a wall hanging, velvet picture. I was just wondering the signifigence. you know from real people, rather than from google. I associate it more with people that are closer to the "ghetto as fuck" variety versus the "upstanding" types. Could be just my own observation.

The panther was and still is the symbol for the Black Panther Party or group. I'm a huge fan of Tupac and I know that many of close family (like his mom Afeni sp?) were members of the Black Panthers and that tattoo was his way of paying homage to what his parents that the Black Panthers did for civil rights. I'd assume that other rappers and "ghetto as fuck" people get the tat for the same reason. / history lesson

I gotta say somethin cuz frankly I think this shit is ridiculous. Being the black woman that I am, I can say that out of all the black people I know, be it friends or family, only a few have any memorabilia of a panther. Not everything that has to do with a black panther has to be associated with the racist group black panthers. A black panther can be seen as a symbol of strength. Plus, the people that I know that like black panthers just like them because they think animal is cool, just like some people like white tigers or whatever. And by the way the few that do like black panthers are NOT ghetto as fuck and yes I know people who are ghetto as fuck. Interesting that you would think that it would have to do with the movement.
You want symbolism?

Also, black people are not the only ones who have black panther tattoos. Ever think of that? Just because you saw a few black supposedly "ghetto as fuck" guys who have them just doesn't mean that every single black person, or "only people ghetto as fuck" like panthers because they stand for the black panther group. Fuck I think that panthers are cool just like I like tigers or snakes or whatever. And I think everyone in this forum can say that I am not the typical "ghetto girl". Get a fuckin life and a brain.

So am I suppose to get a swastika tattoo since one of my relatives was a nazi in germany during wwII, to pay homage, since the nazi party did such great things for modern medicine?Like the girl said before me, the Black Panthers were originally started as a non violent black power group with its main goal to stop the injustices being brought on african americans at that time like police brutality. Of course it didn't stay that way at all and the group turned into a radical black supremacy group that decided killing would be part of its game plan. The Nazi's in no way compare to the Black Panthers so thats just a bunch of bullshit. Two completely different starting motives in the groups. Of course the Black Panthers killed some white people, but they didn't do it in the MILLIONS like the Nazi don't even try it.
Yes Tupac's mother was a violent black panther, but from my research he got the tattoo because of the groups dedication to bringing racial inequalities to the front of the mainstream media, even though the group did have a violent past.

So how are they not being of the same type? Definatley not the same caliber. If I had to pick, obviosly I would pick the Nazi faction to be in.

and the reason that google images contain white ppl with panthers is so that way when you want to see an image of a panther tattoo you got to be able to see it. our pale skin gives the panther tattoo clarity. plus you could prolly find ppl with other colored panthers, maybe. but on black ppl they are always black.

But maybe the answer lies in this book

Sorry but if the black panther was only seen as a symbol for the black panther group it would be kinda strange for white people to have it too now wouldn't it? can't say i've ever seen a black person with a swastika.........:icon_scratch:

So I got my answers, and insulted in the same paragraph. And i got insulted for asking a question, an honest question, I did ask if it would have something to do with the movement because that's the only historical reference I could pull off the top of my head. Now I understand some of the symbolism associated with said animal, and I'll be damned if I don't think it's a cool animal too.
Also, black people are not the only ones who have black panther tattoos. Ever think of that? Just because you saw a few black supposedly "ghetto as fuck" guys who have them just doesn't mean that every single black person, or "only people ghetto as fuck" like panthers because they stand for the black panther group.
I never said these things. I have also seen plenty of black people, in new jersey, where I'm from, but I made ND references for ND people, and threw in a few celebrities for google image referencers. I did not make any blanket statements, I rarely make blanket statements because interent can always find an exception you are implying blanket statements when all I did was ask a question.
Fuck I think that panthers are cool just like I like tigers or snakes or whatever. And I think everyone in this forum can say that I am not the typical "ghetto girl". Get a fuckin life and a brain.
I also like tigers and snakes and whatever. I would assume you're not a typical ghetto girl, you live in fargo, and you drive a mazda, and you know how to use the internet.
I do have a life. A life full of questions, because I have a mind that works aka: brain. So if I want to know something I ask.
Here's what i do think about you though:
In setreotypical woman fashion, particularly minority women who have been force fed this "i've been oppressed" bullshit for years, you saw a topic about something that could have potentially been insulting to you race/creed/culture. Then, without reading or getting the facts you proceeded to dredge the internet for a list of things that would disprove the insulting information I was (not in fact) sharing with our internet community. Then you went on a rant about how my insignifegant personal experience is just testimony to my obviously low Intelligence, and how I simply could not be a person of consequence because I ask questions, something a intelligent person would not have to do.
But you did (probably not realizing it) answer my original question.
So thank you.
Oh, and you drive a mazda, and it's not a track ready spec miata. So you're doubly gay.
Before you jump on the homophobe wagon: I mean gay in it's more recent and commonly accented slang terminology. Meaning: Lame, not cool, or representing something undesirable.
lol

Sorry Colin. If you would have noticed I only responded after the comment YOU made that you obviously don't remember writing saying

Hence I replied to not only answer your question but to respond to something I found was very offensive just as you did now.
As for blanketing, hmmm i seem to remember you naming this thread "why do black people like panthers so much" You didn't say people. You didn't say some black people. you said "black people". Sorry don't see how you can say that you weren't blanketing...
Colin;253308 wrote:
I could understand it if the movement was still up and running, but really? every fucking rapper on the planet has some huge panther tattoo on his arm, black women always seem to have them, if you go into a black persons house, there is inevitably a silk painting of a panther. So don't say you didn't fuckin say that or blanket. I would have gladly answered the question without insulting your intelligence if i didn't think you were blanketing. Think of a different way to say it so you don't sound like a complete asshole.

I know that I answered your original question. Didn't plan on not answering your question.
Everyone is welcome to have their own opinion as you are. Believe it or not I do believe you when you say you rarely blanket. But you did in this case and I called you out on it. If I took it in an offensive way that I shouldn't have, I'm sorry but I'm sure looking back you can see how I arrived at that conclusion.
By the way, I know that I personally have not been oppressed, nor was a "force fed" to me. I think that we don't need affirmative action right now. Didn't vote for Obama like most minorities did. I just speak my mind just as you did and I guess most stereotypical women do "especially minority women right?". Wow another blanket statement.
Did not say anything about your lack of experience attributing to your seemingly low intelligence other than saying get a brain and a life since you would blanket the topic so broadly. Its good to ask questions but not in an offensive way. Thanks for your insight as to who you think I am though.
BTW I don't race my shit on the track so your attempt to try making fun is at a loss. I just drive it on the road. I save gas and slide around during the winter with my 4 cylinder and that's fine with me.
And your welcome for answering your question.

The fact that people seem to think you need to spell out every fucking detail is pathetic in itself. Instead of "why do black people like panthers so much", in order to try offend the least amount of people Colin is expected to title his thread something along the lines of "Why do a few seemingly "ghetto" black people from the ND region that I personally know of, not all black people though, plus a few famous people, like black panthers so much?"
Holy fucking shit people get so damn uptight over nothing these days, and instead of asking what was meant they instead go off the deep end and assume the worst case right away.
Another example of people thinking they 1) have no right to be offended and 2) political correctness is somehow good.
Disgusting.
At least you two seem to have settled your differences...
