A sleeve style coilover sucks compared to a fullcoilover. Typically most aftermarket shocks are only designed to accommodated up to 1.5" lowering w/o losing strut travel. If your gonna do it right you need to be able to adjust your spring preload while maintaining full travel.

that is correct but show me a full coilover that will do this without going all crazy when rebound/bound is adjusted, that is anywhere near $1k

I can only see a coilover like a penske, bilstein, or moton doing this there are others but the prices go up from there.

the set up i mentioned is a very good slternative to buying $4k+ coilovers.

and that price included having them tuned to your car/driving style.

There is many options in the $1500 range. There is no need for him to spend $4k for what he's trying to do. The big miata road race guys are spending $2k or less on their setups. More or less for what he's probably gonna end up doing w/ the car is driving it those Ksports will ride a whole lot better then a set of GC's slammed on stock aftermarket struts bouncing off the bump stops.

I did get my info from the "MIATA" guys. And I dont know where your gettting that they ALL suck. It really depends on the site your on and how you approach them. I'm definately not hatin on your purchase, just pointing out what I have heard. I have NO BASIS otherwise to draw from. So, if your happy with them, then great. I will say this tho. The single best improvement you can do on a Miata to get better handling is to do SWAY BARS FIRST. That will be net the biggest initial gains. Any Miata auto-x'er or road racer will agree with that. So, if your plans are to do either of them, invest in some. You wont be dissapointed.

do you read anything i post. I said custom valved? do you know what that means? it means they set up the valving inside the shock to work with the car, ( weight,useage,etc...).

Now i had never mentioned this to joel it wasn't even towards him. it was towards brandons and zac. but you would have known that if you would pay attention.

$1500 is also not under $1000. do math. shit.

Any of these coilovers are gonna ride better then a sleeve style coilover, the Ksports, the D2, TEIN basic, TEIN SS, etc all under or around $1k.

Have you personally ever owned a vehicle w/ a full coilover or just reading shit off the net again?

There is little to no way around being able to choose ride height w/ a sleeve styler coil and have an aftermarket shock ride in comparision to a true coil. There has been people modify the shocks to accept a shorter shaft but @ that point your already in the price range of a full coilover that was designed to work this way and not have your springs unloading. I've had setup sleeve style coils and aftermarket shocks and they simply suck for ride quality. I would never again spend $1k on a sleeve over coil and shocks vs a true coilover. Anyone who has ever had a set of good coiolovers would know there worth the $$ and not go back to a sleeve over setup.

For a DD he made a better decision in his purchase.

let me know how those end up working for you, i was thinking about getting some, but decided not to due to hearing a lot of bad about their reliablity. there have also been some people that said they havnt had any problems, while more than a couple have said they lasted less then 2,000 miles.
