Regardless of due process...sounds an awful lot like communism to me....not saying that if I were the negotiator I wouldn't have done the same thing.
BTW, I think that this is how we do it as well, if we can get an officer/sniper close enough AND if we are reasonably certain that the hostages won't be harmed in the process.

The #1 goal of American officers is 0 loss of life in most situations...including the bad guys. Not saying this should always be the case but it is sad how many hundreds of millions of tax dollars are wasted annually on repeat child sex offenders/rapists/murderers so they can sit in their cozy little jail cell for the rest of their life.
Bullets are still a lot cheaper than the $1Mil we spend on each inmate per year.

Ok...communist was too harsh...un-American maybe? I mean, we are all for keeping the 2nd Amendment, but somehow the same guys that wrote that amendment fucked up the 6th Amendment.
Edit: Sorry to bring a logical argument to the table, I know some people (not you Dave) have a hard time dealing with that.
