I need to get a new phone because mine is shit and won't do what I need it to do for my new job.

    What I'm looking for:
    VERIZON ***** A MUST ******
    Smartphone (Of course..)
    Has a camera
Can send/receive E-mails with minimal confusion
Not Bulky (I want something unlike the Palm series. They are to bulky)
Texting and Picture messages (Believe it or not, some smartphones do not have this)
Prefer a QWERTY keypad, but could learn to live with something like the Pearl i suppose

Thats really I want. Probably limits me down to a few selections, but let me hear what you guys have to say about your experiences with the smartphones.

Honestly, if you think the palm series is bulky, you are better off going with a blackberry. I'm not much for blackberries personally, but I have used my fair share of Windows Mobile devices, and LOVE my Treo 700wx with a modified WM6.1(WindowsMobile6) on it. The threaded messaging is the greatest invention ever(and it does it with EVERY message, pictures are displayed within the "thread" even). I also have a XV6800, and I absolutely hate the slideout keyboard. It takes the phone time to readjust the screen to the new layout. And like I said, I personally won't own a blackberry, atleast not in the foreseeable future. It just seems like Windows is able to go the extra "mile" in features.

Oh I have to add, I was able to enjoy DVD/divx movies on my Treo on the last trip I just took. The screen is smallish, but the movies played flawlessly, and the battery never died.

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

Unless the new Treo's are smaller, they are kinda bulky for me. I had a Treo 600 somethin and it was ok.. but if I can find something a little better, I'd rather go a different route. But if need be, I wouldn't shy away from a Treo.

Thanks for the input tho! I appreciate it.

Note: Slide-out keyboard = NO. Shit is terrible.

The VZW treo's that we have at work are slow and horrible for synching. As are the HTC6800's (nowhere near as bad as the Treo's). I am the only person in the office using a BB and I love it....even though I paid for it out of my own pocket, it works well, never freezes and tethers easily.

My wife has a HTC6800 (alltel) and I'm 99% sure will go the BB route in the future as this is/was our 3rd WM based phone and all have left us severely disappointed.

Which model of the BB are you using? I won't go with the new 8830's because they don't have a camera. If it would have had one, I would have bought one the second I read the reviews on it 😞

But yea.. I'm leaning to the Pearl right now.. But like I said, I'd like a QWERTY keypad.

EDIT: I forget you said you use the Curve up in the 2nd post. Does that have the camera or no? I forget lol.

There are a bunch of different versions of Treos. Some have hardly any memory(700w), its like 64mb versus 128mb for the 700wx. I've never had problems with syncing, and even use IR syncing with ease. I am not a fan of the 6800 either, Chuck.

As far as size goes, it is a bit thick(thats what she said). Anyway, I have decent sized hands, and it fits well. It's extremely sturdy, and has taken a beating and has hardly any scars on it. I had an XV6600 awhile ago, and I had 3 of those because of broken screens/case, etc in about 6 months. I've owned one Treo for a year and a half. Longest I've owned a single phone so far. Best part about them, you can get them on ebay for around $100. Oh and it does have a full size SD card slot(and with WM6.1 update you can use the SDHC cards, 4+gb).

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

I have the Samsung Omnia and I love it, it's a great phone. The Blackberry Storm is a cool phone but I hate the clicking screen.

the only thing I'd want more is an iPhone but AT&T sucks in Bemidji and surrounding areas.

Best phone you can get right now with what you REALISTICALLY will be doing, and the 'Blackberry Plan' is not that bad of a deal at all.

Get the Curve. I wish I wouldn't have bought my Voyager when it first came out and would have just got the Curve.

Oh man, the omnia sounds like a good idea, but I've heard only bad things, and can't get over the idea of using a touchscreen keyboard.

I wouldn't compare a Samsung teeny bopper phone to a WM device. The Omnia has an external sylus that hangs with a little rope. That is homo.

I've owned WM devices, Treos, and Blackberries, and nothing even compares. Especially when you use blackberry enterprise server. My storm is absolutely an amazing phone now....

I've seen quite a few track balls quit working/ fall out on the Blackberries, went with a HTC much like this one because of the screen quality and completely satisfied.

It also found it's way into a mug of beer when it was about a week old, 5 months ago and still working.

I agree with Nick Blackberry > *...but... Curve > Tampax > Pearl > Storm

                                        WM > *

There are some major points being missed so far... as in do you want a PDA Phone or a Smartphone, there is a pretty big distinction between the two.

It sounds from the description of a palm being too bulky you want a thin, non pda phone...

My favorite Smartphone, has to have been my Q... although I missed the functionality of a PDA phone....

I currently have the Samsung Omnia, but have had the i760 and the i730 previously...

The i760 was my favorite phone, I miss the slide out keyboard.

It really all depends on what you are going to do with the phone, I use quite a few of the features that a Windows Mobile phone can offer over a blackberry (remote desktop connection, wmwifirouter, easy outlook syncing).

WiFi, Bluetooth, EVDO, Fast processors, Expandable Storage, EXTENSIVE list of 3rd party apps.

If your just going to text, occasionally browse the web and read your email, then any smart phone will do. If you need the enterprise push email features, blackberry is the way to go; Like I said before, depending on what your needs are, there is a "right" smartphone for you....
