No tubbed cars, and the top 5 in your group - This will really show who has the fastest club and provide the most even playing field.

Not many people that race street cars, or have street car style race cars want to run up against full blown dragsters. It is fully possible to be fast without being tubbed. Besides, we're looking for the fastest "group", not just a ringer.

I'm sure that the No Tubbed Cars thing will be peoples' biggest hangups, but I would personally not want to race against a tubbed car and most other people don't want to either.
Sure there are some slower tubbed cars out there, but this ensures us that we don't have something like this showing up to race against the car clubs:

Who knows, maybe when the event takes off and more people have some input in the rules/regs we could allow tubbed race cars. This event is supposed to be geared to your typical area enthusiast.

So it's gonna be a bunch of slow cars?
-
See these were all things that a big group of the organizers spent a lot of time discussing and it was the hardest decision to make as far as the regulations for this event. I personally know 2 people that run 9's without being tubbed, so define slow.
The reason that we didn't use the license plate idea is because there are a lot of guys that are building race cars out of street cars that don't have license plates. There are 2 guys in my group right now that are stripping/lightening their street cars to be race-only vehicles. They will look like street cars, but actually be dedicated race cars, but no tubs.
The rules state that you can remove material, but not add it for tubbing. So a mini-tub, and fender rolling are allowed.

Yeah i have seen this, i think all the rules they have in place are very good, like he said, i wouldnt want to run against dave matt and bill in this, thats not the point. In fact, there should be a 50 mile cruise or something too, to really weed out the field like they do for pump gas drags. I dont think anybody will compete with TCstangs though, they pretty much have this in the bag

i dunno, but having a bunch of 1000+hp cars racing and running 8s it takes 99% of the people in the region out, making it kind of pointless. I might have to order up a roll bar next week, but im not really a part of any club, so i would have to figure out who to be associated with.

I'm glad you guys kind of see where we are coming from with this event. We are trying to keep as many people involved as possible and with the diversity in peoples' racing vehicles it's tough.
We actually thought about doing the 15, 210 or 30 mile cruise in order to qualify, but that opens up a whole new bunch of issues to work through.
What if someone wants to race a car that doesn't have a license plate? What about vehicles devoid of DOT equipment for the purpose of drag racing? Also think of the headache getting everyone together, going to a cruise and keeping track of who does an doesn't make it.
Trust me, we've spent a lot of time on getting the rules to a bare minimum but being the most effective. Doing a pre-cruise is unreasonable we think, but possibly in the future things could change.
The other thing I'd like to point out is that although this event is designed to find the fastest regional car club, it will also be a cool opportunity to find out where your particular group ranks in our area.
The last thing I want to say here, is that the definition of a car club is pretty sketchy. Everyone will have a different idea as to what constitutes as a car club so we left it very broad and open to interpretation.
This is what the rules state about the definition of a car club: "• Car Club: Any group of 5 or more people that have a name for their group that wish to compete."
