Calling a black person a nigger in a big city like you have mentioned would probably get you killed for the simple fact is thats where all the gangs and shit are and they don't give a shit.
Since we live in wonderful fargo, north dakota... i'd be willing to bet that 95% of the blacks here wouldn't do shit. I've called a black a "nigger" to his face on multiple occasions, two of which stick out in my mind.

Black kid in school acting like a big gangster. I told him to "sit your nigger ass down, your aren't tough". So just as a typical wannabe gangster does, he gets in my face and proceeds to punch me in the face. Needless to say, that nigger was laying on the floor in a pool of his blood. I got a 2 week suspension for that. Oh well, well worth it.

At a hockey game, there was a black guy that we were playing (some team out of the cities), and he was a cheat little bitch. He decided to hook me in the balls, and then I proceeded to call him a nigger and then it ended in some fists being thrown. Got a 3 game suspension for that.
My point? I have no problem calling a black guy a nigger when I see it. When they are alone, they are worthless. When they are in a group, they will do something. Only because they are weak piles of shit when they are alone. As the saying goes "don't give shit if you can't take it in return". Blacks are all talk and little action (most cases anyway).

I think anytime you have a group/mob mentality, the mob will do whatever they think they can get away with, requiring no provocation whatsoever. Individuals will generally do what they think they can get away with; large numbers just amplifies this tendancy. If an individual or group is pre-disposed to fucking with people for the hell of it, and thinks there will be insignificant consequences, they will do so.
I remember a time I was at school when one of the smaller black kids came up to me and the group of friends I was talking to and tried to push me out of the way to walk right through our group. As I had the mass advantage on him, I pushed him out of the way pretty nonchalantly and attempted to continue socializing. A bunch of his friends were watching and immediately started yelling and what not. Naturally my nerdy white friends evaporated and this group of guys comes over and starts dressing me down etc like I had committed some great injustice.
The scenario was pretty interesting: the young/small guy needs to "man up" and fuck with somebody -- it just happened to be me -- while his older friends were watching, like some kind of rite of passage. They had "his back", in the event one of us had the audacity to shrug him off or perhaps retaliate.
Ultimately, in that situation either they weren't all that interested in actually beating my ass, or I managed to talk them out of it - no punches were thrown. But it was definitely a sort of "trial run" for this younger kid. Egged on by group dynamics and the notion of "let's just see what I can get away with" -- he went for it. I had never seen the guy before or had any interactions with him [or any of the people he was with]. I had my back turned to him when he came up to me.
If you look at the bus video incident, the 2nd kid (5 minutes later) also starts to beat this guys ass. Watch him during the first fight.. he's close and interested, but doesn't participate. You can see him thinking it over. Empowered by the first guy (and the lack of response), he decides he wants to strut a bit himself, and so a few minutes later he gets up and starts throwing a few punches. Once the kid retaliates and throws one, he gives up immediately.
I'm certainly not an expert at real life thuggin, but here's what I think:
If you're going to operate amongst people prone to animalism who are always trying to work out the "dominant dog" in group settings, you're going to have to make sure you're not the easy mark. When you're the only person not a member of the predominant group, you're going to be the easy mark unless you are way off the scale of "normal".
There are only a few stratgies for shedding the easy mark condition; in a situation where the groups are fairly static (i.e. school) you only have to fight back once or twice, and it has to be totally overwhelming, and as long as people know what happened, you'll get a lot of insurance mileage out of that sort of thing. I strangled a kid who took a quarter from me; nobody that witnessed that ever figured I was the guy to fuck with thereafter. I remember a group of black girls passed me once and i heard one of them say "that motherfucker look CRAZY... look like he eat niggaz fingaz and shit". I had to work hard to stifle my laughter because I certainly wasn't going to let them think otherwise. You can't manufacture "positive press" like that; letting it go to waste would be a shame.
The downside of all of this is that everytime you retaliate or escalate, the other side might reciprocate, or they might come back another day with more help. Some percentage of the time, its a losing strategy, unless you're willing to go to jail.
So the upshot is that now that I can largely control what situations I put myself in, I choose not to get into situations where groups and individuals want to play dominant dog games. Having heard that women get punched in the face at the Hub, or that people have a habit of getting shot outside of Mick's Office, I can reasonably conclude that neither establishment is worth visiting, as they appear to be heavens for low-functioning individuals prone to animalism.

I grew up in a urban area (1m+) way south and way east of here. We moved around town a lot so that I could attend the "good" schools, but the city had a county-wide bussing policy to re-level race distribution at all the public schools. Instead of there being ghetto schools and other schools, they put a little of the ghetto in every school. There were kids getting up way earlier than everyone else to take a 2 hour bus ride to my highschool, and then there were kids driving 1-2 year old BMWs that their parents couldn't be seen driving any longer. The kids were in the same physical building but didn't integrate academically or socially -- the only integration happened on the football & basketball teams.
My wife went to school in a part of minneapolis with only affluent white people. Ridiculous shit happened to her friends as well -- and there were no poor angry blacks around. It's just a matter of groups doing what they think they'll get away with. Sometimes those groups form along racial lines, and sometimes they don't.

Exact thing has happened to me in school as well (and on school buses full of white kids where fights were not uncommon even in tiny ass Balta ND where there were 6 kids in my grade from K-8). In that case I consider it as you do as a kids right of passage. As adults, none of these same people would contemplate doing that same shit (unless copious amounts of alcohol/drugs are involved) 99% of the time. I'm still convinced, that with a few exceptions/neighborhoods, that I could walk into a club by myself anywhere in the US (I'm not a huge bad ass white dude either...average height, a little fat) and not fear getting my ass kicked.
FWIW, at the Hub, the biggest group you have to fear is the bouncers from what I hear.

And, I think you are wrong. The bus fight was absolutely racial -- that was the group delineator. They chose him not because he was him, but because he wasn't one of them.
A different bus with a different composition would have chosen differently. Racial boundaries are one of the ways people cleave into "us and them", but just because there are other ways doesn't mean we say this wasn't a race-based act.
Furthermore, just because there were a few other white kids on the bus that didn't get attacked doesn't disprove the suggestion, nor does the fact that not all black kids were involved, nor does the fact that eventually a black kid showed up to do something about the fighting.
IIRC, there have been reports of black KKK members. Does that make the KKK a non-racist organization?

I can concede that point I guess as it is a lot easier to be one of "us" rather than "them" in that type of situation.
My (original) point is that there is no reason to call someone a nigger though or to be worried just because you are around a bunch of them.
Link, if it was a white kid that had fucked with you in hockey or that was acting all "gangsta-like" in school, would you have called him something racially charged (cracker, honkey, etc...) or would have you just called him a fucking cheater/punk ass? I'm guessing it wouldn't have been racial then.

When discussing this subject the MAIN difference between people like Thrash and Chuck vs guys like bubba and rexwagon are that the first 2 guys are educated enough and "get it" and those other guys just flat out don't. How are you gonna sit there and act like black people are always doing the wrong thing? I know that there are PLENTY of reports of whites being useless tools of society.... i.e. When that group of redneck pieces of shit chained that black guy to their bumper and drove down the road just cause he was black. OR when the group of hillbillie sisterfuckers handcuffed that guy to a fence and let him die just cause he was gay... Now as for the Hub, Joe and I use to go their every weekend and sometimes twice a week and NEVER had any problems with black people. And just so you know if I were to walk up and see some black guys beating either of you 2 I would gladly join them because IMO the less people like you in this world the better
