Hey, does anyone know where a guy could get a couple of various capacitors here in fargo?

The caps on the power board in my cheap ass LCD are bad and need to be replaced. It's not under warranty and I'm not paying someone for a simple job of replacing a few caps. Also, I'm not paying $5 at radio shack for a 60 cent part.

I was thinking of stopping in at genes TV clinic and seeing if they can hook me up, but I didn't know if that would be rude since I wouldn't be having them do the work.

Dude... how many capicators are dead?

You do know that Radio Shack STOCKS these kinds of things for you to buy the immediately... not everything is awlays internet pricing?

          ... I'm not retarded.

I do think that the markup from 60-90 cents each depending on the cap, to 3-5 dollars each is rather excessive, but typical for a 'the only game in town' situation. Which is why I asked if anyone knew of anywhere to get parts for cheaper. I'm not aware of every business in fargo, I thought maybe I was missing a place.

My issue is that if I pay the Shack for the seven caps I need, it would have been cheaper to buy a new power board.

If I buy a new power board, there is no guarantee that the one I get will not be from the run with the bad caps. If it get one of those, I could install it, but I'd run into the same problem in a few months.

I'm trying to fix this permanently, in a financially sane way. Seems pretty straight forward to me.

As for the actual problem, a ton of these power boards for LCD monitors were made with a bad batch of caps. Within about a year they start to bulge. I opened my LCD up and sure enough two caps are already plump. They don't die right away but what does happen is you start to get a wierd color gradient in the corners, and the OSD gets fucked up, then eventually it wont turn on all the time, then I suppose it finally does die but mine hasn't gotten to that point, so I want to bite the problem in the ass before it gets worse.

Wait there still selling the bad boards? thats not cool.

But anyway why would you even think to rebuild a board when you can get a new one for like $30

What rating do you need? I may have what you need. I have fixed many LCD monitors with this issue.

And there is a good place in the industrial park, (cant remember the name) it is right across the street from the Phoenix Technologies plant. you'll see a building with a walk in door that says City desk on it.

Apparently. There are lots of reports of people ordering new boards and getting ones with the same shit components.

They do last for a few months with the bad caps I guess, which is long enough for the warranty to expire on alot of LCDs.

I don't suppose they have alot extra of these boards with them being replaced so frequently, so the bad ones might be the majority of what they have left. I only found one place besides ebay that didn't have them backordered.

Awesome, I wrote them all down but I'll be damned if I can find that paper now. I'll pop it open again tonight and let you know.
