I have a rebel XTi and love it. If you want we can get together some time and you can mess with it.

          PM me for:
          Sandblasting(I use glass beads)
          Diesel repairs or performance products.

I'm a Pentax guy myself. I have a K2000 and love it. It has IS built into the body so pretty much any older Pentax lens will work. People tend to overlook Pentax, but they have some pretty decent gear.

That is where I got mine from...not too bad of a price for an entry level DSLR with 2 lenses.

the thing about DSLRs is glass. The camera bodies move at the speed of computer technology, i.e. if you get a DSLR body now, in 18 months there will be a newer one with faster image processing, better CMOS sensor [more pixels], and more features, and it will cost the same or less than what you paid for your body today.

It's not that your old camera will stop working or anything, but it is kind of frustrating 🙂

The key point is that the lenses in an SLR system are where you really want to invest. The lenses are what last and will swap to any of the bodies you get in that line in the future.

I think sticking with Canon or Nikon is a good bet since they have the most experience and widest professional use in the DSLR space. I have a Rebel XT something-or-other and I think it's a great camera, and much nicer than my old rebel film body. The lenses i got for the film Rebel back in highschool of course work with the new digital body [although the flash doesn't].

If you're planning on shooting indoors or people or cars in dusk situations, spend the extra coin and get a lens with an image stabilizer; it will make a huge difference.

You might want to look into getting a used body and then spend more to get a versitle lens with an image stabilizer. I think canon has an 18-70 stabilized lens that is pretty common right now; that's probably a good sweet spot for most things you'd do.
