That's completely incorrect dude the Honda CB750 was the original superbike.... It was first built in 1969 and you can completely see where Kawi stole styling cues from Honda, so if you knew anything about bikes......

alright yes you are correct, but kawasaki started the hp wars when honda put out the cb750 right before kawi was going put out their kz750, but decided why put out a bike of the same size that honda put out which would be the same thing bascially, why not make something faster and bigger

Completely incorrect?????? I think not. KAWASAKI (not honda) created the first idea/concept for an inline 4 cylinder 4 stroke, which they released at the international motor show. Kawasaki began designing the z1 as a 750cc 4 cylinder because there was a 750cc displacement limit in japan at that time. Honda beat kawasaki to the production line in 69 with the SOHC 750 4. Kawasaki then scrapped all previous plans, and knew that to build a TRUE superbike it couldnt just produce another 750cc bike to compete with honda, but that it needed to decimate all. The answer was a 903cc DOHC inline 4 that powered the Z1 in 1972 . (1973 is considered the first year for the z1, but few 72 z1's produced in 1971 were spread out all across the U.S. for test purposes to see if there was enough demand for such a bike) This motorcycle is the first true superbike in america. The honda may have been the first 4 cyl 4 stroke, but it still could not compete with the kawasaki h1 500 triple when it was also released in 69. Kawasaki continued to own the motorcycle world with its 500/750 triples, the z1 took over, eventually became the kz900 in 76. The kz900/1000 continued to decimate all for a few years. Suzuki later developed their 4v DOHC platform which was also very impressive. The z1 kz900 and 1000 , and also the 4valve suzuke gs1100/1150 still temain one of the most popular dragbike platforms to use. Air-cooled blocks are nice as they can be punched out to ridiculous sizes without worrying about hitting water jackets. So to wrap it up, the z1 is seen to be the first true superbike by most.

Anyone that doesn't recognize the CB750 as the first superbike is simply drinking Kawasaki flavored kool aid. The Z1 may have been better, but it was still released to the public after the Honda. Honda beat them to the punch, and Kawi was left to start over, peicing the Z1 together with Honda stylings.

The h1 was released the same year, why wouldnt that be considered the first superbike if we are going by release dates? It was a mean, green, deathmachine. It literally brought motorcycle performance standards to a whole new level. I am not a die hard kawasaki fan like many who r loyal to one brand even if it blows. But kawasaki DID have a huge edge from 69 through the 70's with the h1, h2, kz, z1. They continued to dominate til the early 80's with the gpz1100 and gpz750 turbo. but after that suzuki stole the thrown with its big 4 valve 1100/1150 motors that came in the gs and big kat. not real sure who was on top in the 90's, but suzuki definately made huge progress with the busa.
