For several games, you want to be able to turn off your mic with ease due to strategy...those who have played halo, COD, etc. know what I'm talking about...You don't want the other team to be able to hear you at close range. This is best accomplished by having the ability to turn the mic off when you want, which is best accomplished by having the switch by/on the controller.
