Who's best for cable and internet?

I am getting sick of cable one, I mean there tv is ok, and the internet is awesome, but damn, $135 a month for basic digital cable, 1 dvr and internet. I barely even watch tv anyways, hence the dvr so I can watch the few shows I want. If my damn bill would stop going up i couldn't care but damn, it goes up a little ever month, like 30 buck in the last year and a half.

Where do you live? (Fargo, West Fargo, Moorhead, Dilworth, etc...) That will make a HUGE difference on who you can go with.

Also, what are your bandwidth requirements? Depending where you live, there are really only 2 decent choices for highspeed internet: Midco and IdeaOne....if you live in Fargo you don't have the option of Midco and depending where you live in relation to the IdeaOne fiber optics/copper, you may not have a good choice with them either.

IdeaOne SUCKS, I have a coworker with them and my girlfriends family has them. Speed sucks, "on" time sucks (always having issues), and just overall shitty. Midco > * around here...unless you live in Fargo...then you're screwed.

I was not satisfied with my IdeaOne either. Extremely slow, especially for the price I paid.

Really? What speeds were you getting w/ IdeaOne? We get DSL customers that are switching from Qwest/Cableone/702/etc... every day.

Like I said, it depends on the area of town, and if you were on their facilities directly or not (little known fact: 702, Integra and Qwest all use the same copper in EVERY area they provide service in Fargo.....each can provide the same speeds as the next since they all come out of the same central office....IdeaOne only uses the Qwest lines in areas that they haven't built to yet (which was the case at Boost Innovations...they had to use Qwest copper there), in areas where they have their own "facilities" they are now able to offer speeds/service comparable to Midco). IOW, IdeaOne is the only one (besides Qwest) who actually owns their own fiber optic/copper lines.

What I do know is that if I lived in Moorhead I wouldn't do DSL at all, I'd only do cable (midco or cableone), West Fargo would be a toss-up between Midco & IdeaOne and would depend on the area of town I lived in and speeds that were available to me based on my location.

Certainly IdeaOne is not always going to be the best, and that was why I threw Midco out as the other preferred if I were shopping.

I should note that I do work for IdeaOne, though not on the consumer side, but rather the business side, and the reason I was surprised at what you said is because when I came over and checked my business contacts that I had in my blackberry, there were only 32 out of 600+ businesses who were not existing customers for phone and internet

I'm just tired of Cable One on principal alone. Be nice to get something a better if I can manage it. I was looking at switching to Cable One's limited plan until I saw their 1GB/month bandwidth cap (with charges there-after).

They live northeast of Dilworth, so IdeaOne is the only option they have. When they got it installed, the installation people told them the trees would not be a problem for their signal. Now they have had a guy out twice in the last year and he basically said the installation guys lied and the trees are going to be an issue and there is nothing that can be done. I'm on their network right now...and if both my girlfriend and I are on our computers and someone is on youtube...the others runs at what seems like 56K or slower speeds.

Sorry about that. Normally trees don't directly interfere, but w/o knowing the whole scenario, I can't say yes/no about them lying.

The wireless product is FCC limited/regulated to 1mbs down, so you will run out of bandwidth quickly on that, especially when streaming video from youtube or whatnot.

1mbps will only get you like 100K of downstream data... I'm suprised you can stream youtube at all at. You'll get faster speeds through your EVDO phone then 1mbps.

FCC Regulating bandwidth? Maybe limiting radio spectrum but I've never heard of regulating bandwith?

Holy shit?!??! 1GB a MONTH???!? wtf?

I hate comcast but I enjoy my 30mbps / 15 mbps up. DOCSIS 3.0 is here too... up to like 150mbps right now available but its expensive. Comcrap has a 250gb cap on residential service....

Let me rephrase: We are required to provide 1mbps down per our FCC licensing and we are required to allocate for "x" amount of users. If we provide service at 100% capacity we would only be able to provide ~1mbps speeds w/ no headroom, so basically we are limited indirectly to 1mbps.

It sounds almost criminal... like cell phone provider's who charge per kb.
