How is the city paying for all of this? It's actually fucking the city. The city was self-insured but based on this class-action suit and the girl-who-ran-off-of-university problem, the city is going to have to deplete a bunch of funds, such that they are no longer self-insuring, and then join the state level metro-government insurance pool.
I think the court made the right decision in telling the city it couldn't arbitrarily set fines, but made the wrong decision in issuing refunds to people. The fine schedule was published and available; anyone choosing to break the law knew what the penalty would be.
I can't beleive the size of some of these checks. Are you guys morons?

JESUS CHRIST ERIC!!!! Thats terrible, I actually didn't put in for the class action suit, probably wouldnt have been worth my time. In any case I deserved every fine I got.
Eurofan if you have any outstanding tickets just call the Sheriff's office they'd be happy to come by and serve a warrant. -

Just so you know i got money back from ticket as for back as 05' so in 5 yrs that quite a bit of time to rack up a few tickets. Where not all 50 yrs old.
I had a racing, 95-75, 60-40, stop sign, random other speeding ticket, and a careless driving.
All in all not to bad, even though i do wish my insurance was a bit lower.

I didn't send anything in so I got a big $0. However, I would have got about $30 as not driving like a dumbass really helps things out.

I moved here in 03 and lived in town the entire time. I've gotten 2 speedings, one too fast / care required, and one equipment. I contested the too fast for conditions and lost [ judge davies: thumbs down]
None of the citations were for more than $45, I think. None of them were more than 2 pts so none were insurance reportable.
I got the class action letter and ignored it.
Now, I'm an old geezer and I don't go ricing every weekend, but I do wind the car out and I tend to commit acts of gross debauchery against the posted limit a a couple times a day.
But in this town, more than anywhere else I've lived.. if you're paying attention.. looking ahead like you're supposed to ... and maintaining high awareness.. the cops make it pretty easy to find themselves with plenty of time to slow down. I speed as often as I feel like it is safe to do so. And that's pretty often.
I think the cops here must focus on pulling over the guys that are mentally out to lunch, and who have the audacity to do a 80mph flyby of a parked cruiser and not notice him until he's pulling out behind them. Those guys deserve to get pulled over. They have no business hauling ass if they can't be bothered to notice car parked in the shoulder or median.
I've lived in other places where they setup hidden and camp and are clearly setting up egregious speed traps. And i don't get the sense that that is what they usually do here.
