This is an official release I received today. Although the idea isn't new (Smart Start), Compustar has taken it 12 steps further. This should be available by Fall 2010:

GPS Track and Start Your Vehicle From the Convenience of Your iPhone with DroneMobileby Firstech.Firstech continues to push the envelope with the latest in iPhone apps for your vehicle.
Seattle, Washington (June 14, 2010) - Firstech, the makers of CompuStar, is proud to announce DroneMobile; an iPhone app for vehicle GPS, security and remote start.
DroneMobile is a two part system, the DR-1000 (a GPS and Cellular modulethat is installed into any vehicle) and the free iPhone application. Once the system is activated the user is able to access all the features instantly from their iPhone. One year of basic unlimited service included.
With DroneMobile there is no need to carry an additional transmitter for basic vehicle control; use the iPhone instead. In addition to basic controls like lock, unlock, panic and trunk release the app offers expanded control for remote start, sliding doors, heated seats, vehicle security, GPS tracking and more.
Through the DroneMobile app, easily track your vehicle's current location on a map. Along with the vehicles location, view any available vehicle status information, such as the vehicle's battery voltage, temperature, alarm status and more. With GPS, DroneMobile has the option to receive important alerts, such as geo-fencing, points of interest, theft, towing, curfew violations, speed violations, low battery and service reminders.
"Our goal is to take the emerging Smartphone vehicle connectivity category to the next level. We knew we needed a refined application with expanded feature sets. GPS tracking and auxiliary control were a must", said Jason Kaminski Director of Sales and Marketing for Firstech. "We also wanted to give customers complete vehicle control though any web browser so that the unit would not be limited to the iPhone application."
"Another key advantage is the fact that you can hardwire the DroneMobile hardware as a stand-alone unit, or even install it with competitor's remote start or security system - it's a truly universal solution," said Nicholas Liller Project Manager for Firstech.
The DroneMobileDR-1000 will be available in two packages. Users without a remote start may purchase the DroneMobile DR-1000 system for $549.99 MSRP including basic installation. For those already with a compatible alarm and/or remote start or for those that want a stand-alone unit, may purchase the DroneMobile DR-1000 module for $349.99 MSRP including basic installation. One year basic unlimited service is included with every unit ($29.99 value). GPS tracking requires the purchase of the premium plan.
DroneMobile will be available early July 2010. While the DroneMobile app is currently only available for iPhone users, one can access complete vehicle control through any web browser. According to Firstech, user can expect Blackberry and Android apps before the end of this year. DroneMobile is designed, engineered and manufactured in the United States.
