most factory speedometers are not accurate at that speed.

the "speed" rating of any tire is very underated and is there to save the companies ass in case of a accident, i would have no worries to take a $35 fleetfarm roadrunner tire past the 150mph mark, but what would i know ive only mounted/sold more tires than most people would use in 5 lifetimes.

another thing aren't 90% of the cars on here that are being modified to go well over that speed considered economy cars? lol

LIFE'S JOURNEY IS NOT TO ARRIVE AT THE GRAVE IN A WELL PRESERVED BODY, BUT RATHER TO SKID IN SIDEWAYS, TOTALLY WORN OUT, SHOUTING ' HOLY SHIT.....WHAT A RIDE'

On another forum I am on, one of the members had set of low speed rated tires on his mustang, tried to top it out, blew one of his rear tires going 145mph and flipped his car on it's lid. It wasn't a blow out either, the tire compeletely seperated from itself. They were fairly new. They inspected the other tires, and they were pretty close to comming apart as well.

i'm going to agree with both of you on this matter. a) factory speedometers aren't very accurate at high speeds b) tires do have a limit
i can explain the speedometer being off at higher speeds though, the same reason that fallguy and dave have to do a lot of measuring for tires, expansion.
i do realize that tires are capable of going beyond their rating, companies tend to rate things like this a bit low so they don't get a bad name... but i definitely wouldn't trust my life to something that could be remedied quite easily

yeah if i rolled my car being stupid i'd prolly look for an dumb excuse too, i have personally had cheap tires well past their limit w/ no problems, ask gaysian he had a set of half blown out drag radials on his car at the track over 90+mph with cracks the you could stick ur finger in, but im only basing this off what ive personly seen not what i read

regardless, i would prefer to have tires with a max "recommended" speed that is much higher than i'll be going just so i know i don't have to worry about them
