extreme home makeover

OK, I hate to be the one to say it... but did anybody else think that BOTH houses could have gone to somebody more deserving?
So the parents were crying about not being able to afford proper renovations to thier house for thier kid... but on the other hand basically volunteer all their time for a non profit organization. Thier house really didnt look that bad, and while having a disability isn't something anybody would wish on that kid, how does it justify them getting it?
Secondly, the bosnians that got thier house... soley on the basis of being nice to a kid in a wheel chair? Really? Coudln't they have found somebody that did something more to contribute to society then that?
Also, I've heard they have had fund raisers to pay for utilities and taxes... Seriously? What happened to getting a real job to take care of your own family besides depending on handouts from the community?
At the end of the show, they were quoted in saying "this is going to help us help so many other people"... wtf? becuase they got a new house? huh?

Short answer: It made for good TV
Long answer: Heritage Homes wanted the publicity that comes with BUILDING a new home for someone. They have some ties to Extreme Makeover from their previous house that they built in Minot. Having them relocate a house to another location allowed them to do both.
Do I think that the house they were in could have worked for them? Sure. But the idea was to improve their lifestyle. I'm pretty sure the only reason the other family got the house was because the kid wanted them to have it...again good for TV. Of course you can only get so many soundbites into one episode as well, so I'm assuming there was a bit more to it than that as well. Ultimately though it comes down to a few businesses trying to make money (Extreme Home Makeover and Heritage primarily) through publicity.
The "this is going to help so many other people" comment only makes sense if they plan on running some of the Hope Inc events in their home (daily activities for the kids...IDK?)

It's interesting to do a little digging into what happened to those who have had their houses made over in the past. A fairly large portion of homeowners end up selling within the year because taxes/mortgage/insurance drives them to near bankruptcy and others use it as collateral to start businesses that end up failing or some other odd idea. IIRC some people ended up owing over $1000 more per month than the previous house cost them though which I can easily see being a huge burden on a family.

not to mention the house still looks stupid where its currently at.
anyone catch the bosnian girl say that he's her best friend in a wheel chair? haha.

Of course the Bosnians were nice to the kid in the wheel chair, eventually he's going to get a new one and the old one is potential scrap metal.
