Alero Stereo Setup

if you are going for any sort of competition grade sound system it will REALLY be to your advantage to use one box size for all of the subs. Even a .1 cubic foot variation can change the QTC of a subwoofer system tremendously and while they may still be loud, there may be gaps in the response curve from the subwoofers not moving/behaving linear.

if u get 2 1000's ur gonna need a new alt. right
-
new alternator will only help you when you are above 2500 rpm, will do nothing for you at low RPM's. Extra batteries is the way to go for extended parking lot thumping....that and capacitors. Besides that, they are class D amplifiers, not high current/low ohm monsters.

I ran over 3000watts RMS on a stock 89 escort alternator for 3 years.
-
hey chuck hows it going, the setup is basically just for looks only, the guy that owns the stereo just wanted something to look good, so we built it like that, he is running a 1 farad capacitor right now, but will be getting another one for the other amp when he gets it, i am guessing it is pushing about 142DB on the USAC Meter, when devils run comes he is gonna test it but it is not built for a comp, i am building my grand am right now for a SQ vehicle i will post pics as i get the stereo set up. laterz

np Jared, just trying to be helpful.

well according to a Speakerman website.....if your going to run anytihng over 1000 watts....your gonna need a new altrenator....because stock alts only put out 105 amps ....and all of your main car units take up atleast 60.....a 1000 watt amp draws about 50 amps alteast...so if your running anyithng more than that....your not gettning enough power to your alt........thats what he told me.....
i know guys that have run 3000 watt systems in their cars for years also on the stock alt. and he said the only way thats possible is if they werent gettin all the power needed to get max watts out of the amps......because the total draw of amps all together is over capacity of what your altrenator can handle.
-
dude you have been working on that thing forever havent you!?!?
-
I know what u mean about that box being hard to fit in the strunk. We did an alero and built a box to specs for subs, but he didnt have enough money to buy those subs so now it sounds like ass. 2 10's and a 12. will post pics sometime. nice steup, I wish ours wouldve been that clean.

While technically true that the amps will draw high current, the don't do it for long...just milliseconds at a time w/ normal music. Therefore you don't NEED a high amp alternator for MOST normal applications, a simple capacitor will suffice. (1 farad minimum and 1 farad per 1000 watts)

i have delt with aftermarket alternators before in a civic and it did no justice, i guess it could be because it was a 18 in solo x and a soundstream tarantula amplifier, but no matter what it still kept cutting out, and then one day on our way to grand forks from devils lake the regulator went out, and we started blowing up batteries, we blew up one on our way there got a new one, and about 6 blocks later blew the caps off so we kept filling it with distilled water and then when we left forks, we bought a better battery from checkers auto parts, and about 20 miles out of forks the caps blew on that one, so we filled it up and started the car and disconnected the alternator until the battery died, push started the car,ran with the alternator for about 10 miles stopped and did that all the way back from grand forks for about 90 miles and then we put a new alternator in the next day just a stock one, and blew the motor with NOS a few hrs later.
-
unfortunately, he's not kidding.
-
I am not because it did happen go to site on sound and ask them if they had a person order a 18 in solo x from devils lake, and buy a $600 ohio Generator alternator for a civic and then have to bring back the alternator for waranty because the regulator went out, it was in a 4 door civic EX which is a member on here i think his name is 600HP Sedan, that is the whole reason he is doing the engine swap, he was racing a mazda MX-6 and when racing with his NOS, he held the button in the whole time and had irridium plugs and a 50 or 75 shot i can't remember exactly. we were on our way to forks to adams automotive to get the NOS tank filled when the alternator was fucking up.
-
sounds like your good at wrecking shit!

-
it's a devils lake thing...just look at 600hpsedan, dartcivic, mybadga.....j/k guys
-
no not really it wasn't my car, the person that owns the car is good at wrecking shit, but it was all in good fun a little addition to that story was on our way to forks our fuel line also broke because the owner used a vaccume line for a fuel line when he hooked up his NOS kit.
