nitrous?
-
alright...i've been getting encouragement to install nitrous. don't get me wrong, i completely trust the guys telling me this, but i'm just a little skeptical of intalling nitrous in a car with such few mods. i have a '98 Dodge Avenger w/ the 2.5L V6. i have added an AEM Cold Intake, a Venom400, and just an aftermarket muffler and i'm just not sure that is enough of a start to make nitrous my next step. keep in mind the rest of my engine is stock w/ just over 100,000 miles. would this be safe for my engine? what do you think?

Depends on how big of a shot you anticipate using, dont know much about avengers and how their engines handle NO2.

im sure you can find it online somewhere. there are plenty of avenger forums around. -
i don't know much about the venom 400, but i would sell it in favor of more tried and true methods of making power. all you need to use n2o on a stock engine is good intake and exhaust, and don't use much, stay small for now. lots of honda guys on hondatech run 75-150 on stock bottom ends with i/h/e and maybe some headwork, but usually just the bolt on stuff

The 3g uses almost the same identical motor except that it is a 3.0L versus a 2.5L (which you can see in the pics.). Only issue you may run into and may have to call on this is that when the 2.5/3.0L is used in the dodge products, they run Dodge electronics and engine control. But a turbo kit doesn't require anything to do with the ECU fortunately. But it may hamper your future upgrades as far as compatability. But knowing DSMers.....they already have been ways to overcome that too.
And the Avenger/Sebring platforms have a tad little more space under the hood when compared to the Eclipse. Mostly due to the headlight and body shape.

An AFC is tapped into the ecu to trick it into pumping more fuel, a chipped ecu just does what you tell it to do, and a FMU increases fuel as manifold pressure increases. The FMU is the easiest and has the least to do with the ECU but it is unreliable.
Any way you look at it you can't just strap on a turbo and go for a ride.

agreed, people who want nitrous just to say, "i've got NAWZ!" don't need it and should stay away from iti would never do something to my car just say i did it or i have it. i have more respect for myself, my car, and the industry to do that. i wouldn't be putting in a large shot at all. just enough to make it worth the investment. and as far as putting in a turbo...obviously that would be somewhere above kickass but for my car that's a very huge investment. the last that i saw, a stage1 turbo kit for the V6 was right around $2800. that doesn't include all the prep. work. i was told that nitrous would be the best bang for my buck and being a broke college student, that would be my best bet.

I wouldn't be afraid of putting a small shot on there. As long as you use it wisely, you should have no problem. But beware, a bottle wont last as long as you think. There is also a few extra things to buy for OPTIMUM performance when using niutrous so do some pricing and then make a decision.

weshole...what size would you say would be best? and what other things would i need to do to prep for install?
-
A 50 shot should be no problem but you will need to give your car a good tune-up. Such as spark plugs (COLDER HEAT RANGE), wires, and fuel filter. All of which will need to be done. Also if you want the most out of your system, you will need a bottle heater. I'm just finding this out myself. If I were you, I'd stop in at SLS and talk to nick or Tintmasters and talk to shane. Both are very knowlegeable on the subject and should be able to answer all of your questons and even give you a decent buy on a kit.

ok...i've also been talking to the guys up at AdvancedAutoWerx and they've been giving me some good info. but keep it coming...the more input, the better.

personally i don't think yours trans could take any shot of no2. There crap and break without the help.

no that trannie will handle it a dodge trannie can take a beating, and with the n2o i would listen to weshole, daveH, fallguy, PSHPSI idd talk to one of them the would be the best help, and if u could save the money i would rebuild the motor, then turbo, then nos.............it cant be that hard to save money
