We are currently planning to make the test and tune event on the 4/22 and 4/23 for any of those tht may be interested in going as well.

Also they may 27-29 event falls on the same weekend as the Chop It Fest Car show that we will be participating in as well. EVERYONE should seriously look into going to this event. Car show, cruise, vendor booths, live conerts, dyno, and TVR Dragways.

That track is a pretty good time. A bunch of us went out like 2 summers ago. Hotter then shit out there though so bring lots to drink cause the shade sucks in the stands if/when you arent racing. Pretty good turn out, lots of cars from Sioux Falls and Sioux City. . .Fun to drive out there too cause it is all rural, low traffic, two lane highways. . .so think of a farm field with a couple dozen street racers doing about 80-130 mph by. . .

PS. . .watch out for the turtles down there. . .they are all over the roads towards fall. . .

Located about 20 minutes from Sioux Falls. There schedule is looking very promising this year. Seems to be about 3 import events/month. We will be making the trip probably once a month. Been going down to this track for probably 4-5 years now, they run a pretty good program and camping there is a blast!! They also start in the early afternoon for those that dont like getting up early and run well into the night.

            Schedule:
            http://www.thundervalleydragways.com/2005%20Schedule.html

While I am not interested in the "import events", I would be interested in running down there for a race and checking the place out. Running into the night would be fun to do. That is something they never did at BIR due to local noise ordinances. What kind of car count do they get there? Similar to Interstate?

They don't have lights out there right now do they? I can't remember... I've only gotten out to IDR once.

I know even if BIR installed lights for their track that they would never be able to get by the noise ordinance.

Wont have to worry about BIR anymore. They are officially done. This is their last year of contract w/ NHRA and next year the track is being torn down and have housing built on it's land. IDK if BIR is even running a schedule this year other then the NHRA events.

This is going to get way off of topic... but oh well...

I wouldn't quite say that BIR is done yet. There have been plenty of rumors going around since the announcement that the place was for sale. The FACTS are, it isn't sold yet. They want $12,500,000 for the piece of property. There is a total of 422 acres in the race facility, and the cost of environmental cleanup to actually get it to a point where you could build a big housing development on it would be "crazy expensive." Think of all of the spilled beer over the years. 😄
There is still plenty of better and cheaper land in the Brainerd area to build on if they want to put up some big housing development. The city isn't big enough for a place to come in and blow that kind of money just to put up some housing.
There have been rumors of 6 Flags Theme Parks buying the land, but that has not gone through either. There were a lot of different rumors of turning part of it into a golf course, but I don't see that happening either. If a company wastes too much of their land out there putting other attractions on it, they will not have enough space to handle all of the campers for The Nationals and they also don't want a nice groomed golf course with 150,000 drunk people around to tear it up.
Anyways, I wouldn't count BIR out yet. It may be under new ownership and management in the next couple of years... but I wouldn't count on a big housing development taking over that piece of land anytime in the near future.

When we were in Rock Falls we were talking to the track manager there about local tracks and he said after this year BIR is being torn down to become residential housing after this season. Their contract is up w/ NHRA this year.

Oddly enough he also had some comments about our track as well but i'll keep those to myself.

Kirk, Thuder Valley is in the middle of nowhere as well. They do this so they dont have to worry about noise ordinance. Thunder Valley does night races. I've been there times where we've still been going @ 1am. Shit, @ the Shootout last year in Ohio they finished up just before 3am fri night.

As far as the contract being up with the NHRA, what is your point? That doesn't mean it can not be re-instated. The present owner has put plenty of money into the facility over the past few years... but the management has been crap.
It is still one of the nicer tracks on the NHRA Nationals Tour. It wouldn't take much to get another contract.
