It does indeed suck that someone so young died, especially with a kid that has to grow up without a Dad now. With skull fractures that 97cav mentioned I'd assume this meant he wasn't wearing a helmet.
Hopefully (altho doubtful) that this puts all the bike guys out there on alert that you need to wear a helmet riding around town. I know this makes me sound like a old guy (and I am) but I've been riding/racing motorcycles for over 20 years, and a helmet has saved my life at least 2 different times that I can think of (once where I crashed on my own and the bike landed on my head). It doesn't matter that a helmet doesn't make you look cool and it messes up your hair. It will keep your melon intact when you crash and that is all that matters.
A reality check indeed you can still pick up women wearing a helmet, ive never rode without one -
No disrespect intended, but someone who dies after weaving in and out of traffic, while speeding, while not wearing proper gear, does not make me want to wear a helmet any more than before. I usually do not wear a helmet on the street. I also don't ride beyond my skill level. It is unforunate, but comparable to not wearing you seatbelt.
BTW, all of the above mentioned factors, were from a first hand account from one of the drivers he had passed.
Rest In Peace Dan

I think your missing the point...
Point being, no matter how good of a rider you are, accidents happen, and it would be the smart thing to wear a helmet.
You can't deny the fact, that they save countless numbers of lives, and that accidents can and will happen. You can't control other drivers on the road....
I'm sure that his family would have pefered him to be wearing a helmet, and be alive...

Agreed, you never can control your surroundings, no matter what your skill level is. -
I agree with everybody aabout how he should have been wearing a helmet, no one knows whats going to happen out on the streets. There are some really crappy drivers out there, and lots dont even notice motorcycles. Personally you could be the best biker out there and have been racing super bikes for years, and i would still wear a helmet on the streets just because of other drivers.

I just got off the phone with a friend who saw him in the hospital. He said Dan's head had swollen up 5x its nornal size (his words) and blood was gushing from his ears, eyes, nose, and mouth. Other than that he just had a broken right arm, leg, and wrist. I guess his family flew up from texas and I should be getting funeral info soon.

Why do people not wear helmets in the first place? Do they think they look cool without it or somethin?
-
That is too bad, my thoughts with the family as well. I didn't know him but from what I heard he seemed like a nice guy.
and YES no matter what you should wear a helmet. It shouldn't even think twice about it.

I have never talked to him before, but I knew him by his white grand am. I just feel sad for his family, especially his kid. Such a tragedy to die at a young age. All prayers from my mom and I are toward his family. My mom taught him in high school.

his funeral is at 10:30 am on monday at St Josephs in moorhead.

I dont care how geeky you think it is, HELMETS SAVE LIVES. When i get my bike, i am going to where a helmet all the time, i dont care if it messes up my hair or anything. I would rather look like a geek, that die in an accident. Thats just me personally.

who's all going to go to his funeral?
