Too much HP?
-
he couldn't pick out a number but 1000 plus was too high to be legal supposedly, what parts would be illegal? I can't thnk of any mechanical parts off hand that are, for my car anyway. Nitrous open bottles comes off the top of my head, but I don't know.
-
A cop isn't going to be driving around looking for guys with too much power. How is he going to judge that by looking at the car. With enough $$$, you can make well over 1000 hp and still be emissions legal. Legal parts isn't what's in question here, how much power is.
-
we don't have to deal with emissions in this state, therefore that is irrelevant, the thread is now taking a new turn, we all know that there is no too high hp #, but what pieces are illegal?
-
I am guessing that some headers are illegal and running an exhaust with no cat is a little illegal.
-
in nd? Bullshit! If it is illegal why would they sell it? there are some parts that are "off-road only" but that is only if you live in an emission controlled state. If I give a 2002 mustang an aftermarket X-pipe exhaust and delete the cats, you are saying I can be pulled over and ticketed for it? Noise ordinances do not count there are plenty of X-pipes that pass.
-
the next time you get pulled over, ask the officer to take a look at your exhaust; if he/she knows anything, you'll have a big fine or "fix it" ticket on your hands
just trust us: in the us, it's illegal to be without a catalytic converter or muffler (unless your vehicle is pre... 1974?) -
I've gott a 1966, so I'm safe butmy dad is thinking new exhaust for his car
-
i dont think so. speaking of 1000 hp street legal cars. on street fury there was this 1000 hp street legal supra. apparently street legal is all the interior parts and electronic applications like cruise control still existing or is there more to it?

if any car has the emission devices taken off it is illegal...bottomline whether or not the state checks for emissions or not...if they catch you(most of the time they dont know the difference) but its a huge fineI was going to post almost the exact same response Tony. Also, it is technically illegal to replace a catalytic converter w/ a high flow cat unless the original one has been damaged. Even then (to be legal) it has to pass CARB certification standards. Other things that are illegal are BOV's that vent to atmosphere and exhausts that idle above 97 dB.

ahh yes... our good friend the california air research board... if i remember correctly, the exhaust standard is 93db +/-5? i know there was a question about it on dsmtuners from some dude that received a loud exhuast ticket (along with several other bs items totaling big bucks); he then successfully defended himself in court
the general idea is that anything that will allow ufiltered burnt fuel into the air is not legal -

Thoughts please, I say bs. they sell legal seat delete kits, cruise used to be a factory option, hell you can run with your doors off if you are wearing your seatbelt can't you? (ergo jeeps), I've heard street legal can be as simple as bumpers, taillights, headlights, and blinkers. How about this stuff?
