i need to vent this...ok, so ive been working @ this place for around a month. havnt really had any problems or anything like that. i get along with everybody it seemed. and yesterday i called them saying i wouldnt be able to work today because of an "injury" (yes it really is one...dont wanna get into it). and ive had another day where my finger was split open where i asked for the next day off, then one other day when my hands got chewed up after a scooter took a shit on me (i throw 50lb. bags = bad hands and ur fucked). anywho, after my call last night, the guy says he "has to let me go" because of "all of the times ive been gone"...i realize that 3 days can/is a big deal, but its not like i did anything on purpose ever. i've NEVER been late, never had any problems there. so i dont really understand why he let me go...i worked hard, i did what i was supposed to, but because of my "sick days" he fired me. i realize that with business thet's its very important to have employees that you know are going to be there. Ive always been there, other than when I CALL AHEAD OF TIME! basically, because i called in sick for 3 days (not in a row of course) i got fired...i can see it from the boss's point of view as in maybe he sees a non-consistant employee, but ive always done what i can while im there and i dont feel that someone being sick or somthing is justification for laying them off. but in the end its the boss's decision and i have to respect it for what it is, no matter how fair or unfair it is...sorry for the long post, but i just got the call like 10 min. ago and had to vent. talk to ya all later.

North Dakota is an "Employ at Will" state....meaning they can legally fire you for basically any reason.
Sorry Torbs. Now you gotta go back to strippin in the evenings 😛

yeah, joel, ND is a right to work state. So as long as it isn't racially orientated or descrimtory they bussiness can just fire you on the spot. But on the bright side that also means you don't have to put in a 2 weeks notice somewhere when you quit either. and sorry to hear about that man. I know where I work as a manager people that have sketchy records right away aren't really the ones we try to keep around.

              Minute ricer!

If they can fire someone and make that much more money most managers will go for it.

I probably would consider laying you off too. If you get injured often and you are needed for hard labor, it wouldn't work well.

I think that it would be considered an unhealthy if not hazardous work enviroment. If it happens again tell him to contact OSHA. He can be anonymous and even if his employer finds out it was him and retaliates by firing him, his employer can get in trouble. If he dislocates his shoulder at work they better care because he can file workman's comp which can imclude pay for days of work missed. Not to mention all the doctor bills.

Missing 3 days in 5 weeks of work ESPECIALLY THE FIRST 5 WEEKS is pretty bad if you ask me. It'd be different if you had been there for 6 months or a year, but in the first 5 weeks unless you are sick as a dog, you really shouldn't miss work period.

If it is a pre-existing injury sometimes wokers comp does not cover it.

If he was a housekeeper, I would be happy if he only missed 3 days of work in 5 weeks. Thank god I sit in an office all day now.

i wouldnt have missed any work if it was just an office job or somthing, but all of the times i didnt feel that i could lift 50lbs. all day and be fine...i figured id be better off not being there for a day so i could be @ 100% the next and not half ass it or anything...that and my few injuries have not been that bad, but all of them i knew would get worse if i worked. i never had any problems with the head guy before, everytime i talked to him about things, he was totally cool about it...another reason why it was so sudden

a corporate environment such as the one you probably work in brokendsm is VERY, VERY different then smaller companies, and especially smaller companies that are hiring laborers.

the corporate entities set up policies to cover themselves, but this does not mean that they HAVE to go to this extreme, it's just a precaution.
