Could be the previouse owner. If I remember you said you bought it off a guy who didn't know a whole lot about cars, and was kinda shady. I sold the car you are speaking about. This was not the car I sold him, this was the black one. Grant, I am very sorry to hear that your cd player is gone. Personally, if I brought my car to a shop, I would remove everything in the car, for liability reasons, and the fact that it makes their job of working on your car THAT much easier. I was at SLS that day and noticed that there was a bunch of neons, etc in your hatch. I was looking at your car becuase I was curious to see how the piping turned out. I did not notice anything worng, although I didn't pay attn to your cd player. Good luck with finding the cd player, but i would say call scheels for an aluminum bat rather than calling the police. It's much more effective around here.

Shops should have to prove to you that they are worth your time, and money, and if they dont thats there problem and not yours. All you can do is what you are doing, voice your piont of view.

but you cant expect the shop to keep an eye on your car all day/night...they have a business to run as well...you dropped the car off knowing that they wouldnt get to it right away so that it would be sitting outside...i was there when you came in after hours(like 11pm) to tell them you wanted them to fix your car...Troy only said he would take a look at it...he never said he was gonna fix it...i remember distinctly...and you have to realize you dont have to break anything to get a door unlocked...its a hell of a lot easier than you think...

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

When you dropped the vehicle off we distinctly said we'll take a look @ it when we get around to it. You said you were not in a hurry to get the vehicle done as it had been sititng for months anyways so you had no problem w/ a time frame. Never claimed we could or would fix the vehicle but rather said we'd take a look @ it. After starting the vehicle up and trying to move it even 5ft it died on us 5 times. Once the vehicle finally ran we attempted to test drive it to access the problem and made it about a block before the vehicle once again died and would not start. We then towed the vehicle back to the shop and shortly after you arrived. In all honesty like we said that vehicle would have more time put into trying to acess and fix the problems then you would have been willing to pay. Trying to dig threw and find problems after someone else has already been digging in there is a lot bigger headache then it is if you do the project from the get go. from what you had told me you and your buddy had done a motor in it and some other work. You mentioned it also had electrical issues.

Also if its a vehicle we aren't going to get to right away we do not have the space to just store them inside. Vehicles that have appts and are being worked on are kept inside. In your case you said get to it whenever you could and left it there rather then setting an exact appointment.

Thank you guys on here for being pretty understanding about my venting here. yeah joel most of the interior was our of the car and just sitting in the hatch the deck was really the only thing in the car. though unless it got shoved under the seat or somethign I think they may have taken the factory shift knob which would be really wierd. Nick, I can see where you are coming from with leaving things outside. I was just (as I think understandably) upset about having stuff stolen. you guys mentioned that this has happend before there. I dunno but maybe you would want to put in a cam since there are cars ALOT more valuable then mine there. and then maybe the baseball bat idea could be implimented. I dont' know, I've pretty much cooled down about it now. I just kinda wanted to vent and see what people would say. the responses have been interesting.

it all depends on the place on how they treat customer cars...at work here we bring in customer cars at night if they request it...we have had a few broken into and have helped them cover the costs of repair

no, sls isnt responsible for anything that happens to your car in their lot. but the way i see it, if a business wants to build a good reputation, they should at least have cameras on the lot where their customers cars are kept - especially if theyve had a serious problem with theft.

It's pretty hard to fit cars into a shop that is already full of cars. I don't know how that is supposed to work. Plus, do any of you know how annoying it is to have to push dead/broken cars in and out EVERY day and night? Do it for a while and tell me how you like it. It's not the responsibility of the shop to pay for damages to your car if someone breaks into it in the parking lot. If you took your car to Wal Mart and let's say that your battery died, and you had to leave it there for 2-3 days, and someone broke into your car and sole your shit and broke your dash, do you think Wal Mart is going to pay to fix it? Nope. Not their problem. Same concept here. Sorry not every business in the world has video cameras to catch thieves.

You guys keep saying that it isn't the shops responsibility, and talking to a few shops in town I guess you guys are right. Some shops have policies on this and some don't. the policies are for cars that are in thier possession. So the wal-mart analogy is really a moot point here, since walmart would more then likley have a car towed that sat there for a few days. Whereas at a shop, that has the keys for a vehicle has some responsibility to the vehicle and yes I think most shops would do this for a good rep and return customers. I know I won't go back to straight line for anything. They may be good mechanics but they have not impressed me. I believe this is the type of thing that most shops don't want on thier record. I've also talked to a few more legally knowledged people and they concurr with me that if something like this were taken to court the shop would lose. though thats not going to happen here, cause like joel said "good thing I have another one".

Dude, "You would lose in court". There have been many break ins at numerous shops and dealerships. They are not responsible. Yes, some shops may try to help you out. But all in all, 99% of them do not. Your situation sucks and I dont wish that upon anyone. Do you have a detachable face? Should you have taken it off? That could have deterred everything. All in all it sucks and the fag who keeps breaking into shit needs to be taking down.

Also but I'm not for sure on this one, I think they are trackable... but yeah, people need to just not steal stereo's it's stupid and pisses people off. I know if I were to of caught the person doing it I would of done my best to send them to the hospital.

I don't know you but, basically your acting retarded here.

First off, Walmart was an analogy. You know what he's saying. Secondly, take it to court, you will not win. Next, you show up at 11pm, leave your broken probe to get looked at. You tell them to fix your timing, but its obvious you have more problems then that. You seem like the type of person who, would have them set the timing, and then blame them for "breaking" the stuff thats already broken.

It's all right though, I'm sure they don't mind having a person like you not come back.

My car sat at Straightline for months, out in the parking lot. However, I did remove my face plate, and my AFC... Common sense tells you should do that if you leave your car outside anywhere. Sorry that this isn't rural north dakota anymore... Fargo has a problem with car thefts. It sucks, the people are the scum of the earth. But badmouthing / blaming a shop where YOU parked your car, doesnt make sense.

Go park your car in a parklot down in the twin cities. Leave your cd player there. Leave it for a few days. Do you honestly not know HOW easy it is to open a door without breaking a window? Seconds if the thief has done it before. Cd players pop out in another few seconds. Look point being here, is that a store where you park your car, shouldn't be responsible for you parking your car and getting shit jacked. Hell for all they know, you could have come with an extra key and tried to blame them. Any store in the twin cities would just laugh at you.

Make a police report (they wont do anything), listen to what other people say, hopefully you can get it back.

Jim is absolutely right, every businesses down here will tell you to park at your own risk overnight, most won't even let you park overnight. That's why the Mall of America will tow your car if parked overnight, because they don't wanna pay personnel security extra hours to watch over your car. I once dropped off my car at BZ2 to get a tint job done. Their shop closes at 6pm on Sunday, so Tony from BZ2 asked me to come get my car before they closes. He also mentioned if I don't pick it up now, BZ2 will not be reliable for my car. Once your car is out in the parking lot, it is your responsibily to watch over your car.

I'm willing to be that someone knew what cd player you had in your car and knew that your car was there also. The reason I'm saying that is because there's a bunch of other cars that just sit outside around there and none of them have been broken into and had stuff stolen out of them. There's even been a few nights where our own cars have sat outside in the parking lot all night, windows down, keys in the ignition, and nothing ever happened to them. Coincidence? Make your own decision.
