Moniters and windows 98 disc

i think i have 98 and 98se around here somewhere. if you need cheap monitors, come to savers. theres probably 7 or 8 there, half of them are relatively new and in decent shape.

the 98 is so we can boot up a computer that has a new harddrive and than xp is getting put on it once it is booted. The moniters are for my room and my bros room, we have like 4 computers and 2 moniters.

and torbs, it cant be a tv, it has to be small enough to fit on my desk with the cpu

why cant you boot with XP? do the XP clean install....dont install it on top of the 98 install...

it wont boot. We are doing it like the computer was set up before, it had 98 on it, than once booted, we did the xp clean install. the problem is that the computer wont boot to even install xp, but will boot to install 98.

unless one of you can come over and help us out.

wtf thats the weirdest thing ive heard...are you sure the xp disk is bootable?

i figured it out, we have the 98 boot disc, but not an xp boot disc, the problem with the computer is that it isnt recognizing a cd rom drive, so you need to boot it from the A drive. my dad explained it to me all wrong. we have the xp disc, we just need to borrow a 98 disc.

you need to find dos drivers for the cdrom drive and youll be set...most computers nowadays will have built in hardware support of a cdrom drive much like that of the floppy drive...

we will be fine if we can get a 98 disc, than we can set up the cd rom drive. It wont do anything until we boot it.

have you gone into cmos to make sure that the first boot device is a CD Rom drive? If not, that is probably your problem. It shouldn't need to boot dos drivers to get your CD drive to work, if its recognized in CMOS it should be able to boot winxp.
