Fighting Sioux

ok, this bugs the crap outta me, all this shit all over again about the name. I am offended that we honor them and they say that the name cannot be used. I'm Irish, The fighting irish is also very offensive, if you look at it that way. I say go to this page and send an e-mail saying it's bs and showing that you are insulted by the fighting Irish. It doesn't bug me, but the sioux thing does.

I remember reading something about this my first year of college. I couldn't believe there was a University of North Dakota.
If all these politically correct people had their way we would not have any mascots at all because they would be all deemed offensive.

The name will not change. The man who built all those buildings for UND will not have it.

The school has the choice of changing there name or not. It just wont let them host post season tournaments. Big deal for most colleges. If the University of North Dakota decides to change the name, they will lose the rights to Ralph Engelstad Arena. It is in contract that they must keep the name and the school does not own the building.

Most native americans that I know aren't offended by the name....unless they feel like arguing. I'm serious there, it is not a poke at them or their culture, just my general observation in regard to this and similar matters.

I guess the movement behind the changing of the name is mostly being pushed by those who are not of Sioux heritage.

I don't understand how it could be offensive. Hell, I'm Irish, and I have a buddy who is Irish who is the biggest Notre Dame fan I know. He said he would go kill someone if they changed their name.

I say quite the post season if they force und to change names, they need the sioux more than und needs them. I love how Ralph engraved the logo on everthing he could just for this situation.
It will cost a pretty pennie to get rid of all of the logo's. -
I heard this on the radio today.
UND is in the top 50 of ALL NCAA schools in the United States for merchandise sales.
The UND Logo was DESIGNED by a Sioux Indian.And on a personal note:
I never played hockey, but UND hockey got me interested in watching the game. Their games are fun to go to, they put on a great show, an they are damn good. OK bye.
