Forum article on "cars" sucks balls.
-
well atleast todays didnt say anything TOO stupid.
-
The street is covered with ground hugging hondas, and cavaliers with glittering paint jobs, dazzling graphics and expressive exhausts...LMFAO
-
Ok, I think I'm going to write a letter to the editor...whoever wrote these articles (especially Sundays) should be shot. Hell, maybe I'll even go so far as to re-write the whole damn article for them. I mean it's good the scene is getting some press, but it would be nice if it were somewhat accurate information. They made it sound like the only way the imports are going fast is by using N2O and that we all have it on our cars. Didn't Dave run a 10.05 w/o spray a little while back? Anyways, don't be surprised if you see a letter from me in there somewhere.
-
don't forget about the "Me and my car" section on page A-7. Where it shows a shot of the owner and not the car...lol, terrible.
-
Yep...lets get a meet...take picture for the forum and have someone write a whole article..
-
Sounds like a good idea
-
I'd rather never have my car listed or mentioned in the paper, however both articles sucked, both articles were extremly biased and did not give a fair representation of the scene (lots of free advertising for tintmasters), and they only talked about the gay ricer shit.
-
yeah, that was my impression too. I think they could have covered the other 5 or 6 shops in town too, then I think they would have gotten a much better feel for what is being done to the vehicles and also maybe just a taste of what you can expect from each shop, what their specialties are and a little history on them.
For example:
Tintmasters: A little of everything, probably have one of the highest %'s of walk-in customers which tends to give them a bigger % of the ricer crowd. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Began their business in Grand Forks and expanded to Fargo in 2001.SLS: Definately the "race shop" in town, though they do know their way around the fancy electronics and fabrication as well.
Roadsounds: Primarily a stereo shop, but are more than capable of doing mechanical work as needed. Another two location shop as they originally started in Minot as a stereo shop but eventually moved to performance and tuning, expanded to Fargo in 2003 (or was it 2004...I forget)
Autowerx: Similar to Roadsounds but maybe leaning a bit more to the tuning side of things (just my observation, I could be wrong)
Team: Mostly an electronics shop, but also very knowledgable about performance aspects.
Type-R Motorsports: The first "official" shop in town, specializes in performance and mechanical aspects of the industry, very good fabricator (fiberglass, wood, metal, etc..) and very detail orientated, does not stock ANY parts, but can custom order as needed.
There. I think I already wrote a better article than the Forum.

I think you did to...Well Done!

Just wondering, cause NO OTHER SHOPS ARE SPENDING ANY MONEY TO BENEFIT THE RACERS AND CAR ENTHUSIASTS OF THE FARGO-MOORHEAD AREA.
Does tintmasters sell "ricer" stuff? Yep. It sells too. And everyone that participates in tintmasters' events reap the benefits.
Nick, get a clue, you and your tintmasters bashing are getting old. How come you're not promoting ELITE all the time. THEY built YOUR 11.4 second(once, let's see you do it again) car.
Maybe I'm biased because tintmasters sponsor my bike. However, I have no problem with Nick and Kevin @ SLS, and I have no problem with Brett, Jake, and Troy @ AA&E(Hell, I buy gas off of them). I may not promote them, but I sure as hell don't trash them at every opportunity. Grow up.

eff that shit needed to be said for so long! you dont even know the applause that you got for that... if i had 13 thous. to spend or uh... act like im gonna pay i would have a fast ass honda also then i could go around like my shit dont stink. but yea this is jerry by the way.

I'm NOT saying that Tintmasters doesn't deserve credit for helping the scene here. I go to Tintmasters myself for parts and labor at times. Other times I go to Type-R, that's nothing against any of the other shops in town. I DO think that if the newspaper wants a fair and honest review of the local scene they NEED to include more than one shop. I know that Shane puts more money out for car shows and track days than any other tuner shop in town, I certainly won't/can't argue w/ that. Don't think anyone will. HOWEVER if it is a truly balanced article the paper should have included more than one shops opinion, not just the one that puts the most money into the sport. They could have easily said what I said above about the respective shops and also went on to say "Shane Noble at Tintmasters is really doing a lot to advance the sport/hobby in the area by sponsoring car shows as well as track events at the local 1/4 mile race track in Sabin....." The way the article was written it appears that Tintmasters is the only shop in town. I think that is what the original poster had meant when he posted his comment about the free advertising.

They did go to more than one shop. They went to Aurora. To satisfy what you are asking, they would have to go to every speed shop, parts supplier, custom shop, chrome shop, fabrication shop, etc... there is. Too many shops, not enough space in one article.tjamz wrote:

The ONLY money.tjamz wrote:

I don't. -
2wheeler, I think your right on the money. As much as I sometimes disagree with tintmasters, they are THE ONLY shop in town with marketing abilities period. A business who does not market, does not exist in the eyes of corporate america. The forum is use to talking to business of notariety and with some of archivable documentation background usually relating to past events which in the business world tends to be marketing ventures. Shane is the only business in this town that has put out of his pocket (but as with all marketing ventures, in hopes to profit which is only to be expected of course) which does distinguish his shop from many others in this town. As well as Caleb may be in quality at Type R, or as many fast cars SLS pushes out, it's all about marketing. Now granted SLS must have some marketing abilities via internet with their services they provide to a wide array of customers over a much broader target market (geographically speaking) tintmasters has seem to be the predominate figure seemingly integrated/synthesized with the "tuner" crowd in the F-M area. With all the hard work done in their ventures, it is only deserved, whether you like them or not.
Now Shane, about that business software you might need for your prospering client base

Very true, I didn't think of it that way and I certainly wasn't trying to argue w/ you. To be honest, (and in hindsight) if I were the Forum and I didn't know the scene all that well, I'd probably go to Tintmasters for insight for an article as well. They are definately the most visible (how many SLS or Type-R Stickers do you remember seeing compared to Tintmasters) and do have a pretty big share of the market IMHO so, again in hindsight, it would make sense to go with the "Big Dog" in town for information. I *personally *would have liked to have seen better representation of several import tuner shops AND classic hot-rod shops. I can't change who they decided to cover in the paper, so I guess there's no sense bitching about it.
HOWEVER, I think that either the guy misquoted everything in the Sunday edition or he/the people he talked to are idiots. The dual carb's thing had me shaking my head in disbelief. I guess I just expect more out of journalists.
