Busted Z!!
-
Like I was saying in the "not an ordinary ricer" thread by T!n, My friend has just recently purchased a '02 or '03(cant remember) Nissan 350Z. He and his dad are in the process of ripping it apart and diagnosing the problem areas. Like 9 months ago he bought a 01 cougar XR(op whatever the nice one is) busted and fixed it up. Sld it for 11,100 and used that money to purchase the Z. The Cougar turned out very nice and i'm anxiously awaiting the next project to be complete. Here are some quick pics I just took like 5 minutes ago.
The Car

The Busted Radiator

D. Side fender

Fully Working engine.

The Busted Rim

All airbags...DEPLOY!

The extra's...

This car was bought in MNPLS for a little over 9k after tax. Quite a deal!

Yeah and he thought he could fix it up for 2000 orig. for 2500, now he thinks it'll be 4500 but if he wants in professionally painted(he said its going to be so they dont get clearcoat run's again), airbags replaced (thats almost 2000 right there), and all those foreign parts + the small things replaced i'll see it go easily over $6000+ to fix. I think he might have jumped the gun a little too soon on this one compared to his cougar, which only had rear end damage, not engine damage. Just a quick list from the 20-30 min i saw...
Windshield
Drivers Door
Radiator
Oil Pan
Some wiring and tubing in the engine
Hood
Front Fenders
Hood fixing
minor realignment
Repainting
Struts
Lighting
Wiring
4 new Rims
4 new Tires
Airbags
other engine parts i dont know/cant remember.... -
i totally agree....that 9k dollar z car will probably turn into a 20k dollar investment pretty quick....especially for how new it is and how few used parts are out there.

Is he interested in a partialy damaged veilside front bumper by any chance?

Check on ebay, there a ton of used 350z's for sale... fairly cheap too.

True. Since this is a BASE model Z, nothing is special about it, he'll be lucky to be able to get rid of it for 20k. My brother got his 03 BASE version for 26k with only 50 test miles on it when it came out. He should use this car as a project rather than resale.

He is going to get screwed becuase of the Salvage Title Anyways..

I don't think hes putting all this work into it to resell it. His dad knows more about cars than most. He just sold His cougar to get money for this car. He wants to drive this car. Not resell it. I also believe there is a little bit of self-satisfaction knowing you and your dad restored it rather than buying a new one. It's also the meaning of father-son bonding, and satisfaction in the finished product that must be figured into it's final value, not just resale. -
Joel, that is the most complete, well-written thing I've ever seen you write. I don't know what to say, I could actually follow every sentence. Wow.

Joel, you get an S+ AND a gold sticker on your report card today. JK bro, but I think that's cool that its a father-son project. Wish my gramps was into crap like that, my only "father-son" project was 2 things 1) Golfing and 2) Farming. Golf is fun....kinda.....just got old after awhile oh well.
