My Poor Poor Evo
-
Yeah, and if I'm not mistaken it isn't cheap (or easy) to put a clutch in an evo either
-
they told you they won't replace it because it's user error? what mods do you have done to your car?
mitsubishi has turned to shit, how can they build a high performance car and then when things start going wrong not stand behind their warranty, I know it's been happening for a while, but it's too bad...
-
You can't really expect them to warranty that though can you? You've raced it beyond its "call of duty" and have pretty decent performance modifications that increase the HP by a lot. Trust me I've been through this more then you know, try a transmission or 2

Losing money and in the process of going out of business might contributed to this matter....

or a CAI on a STi, that was pure hell to(ask kevin...im not good at telling stories)

I did one on my old roommates 03 EVO. Brandon Griffith. His went at about 15k too. That was about 30 passes. Best ET was 12.66 with 2.5" test pipe with a dump pipe, K&N, MBC and AFC. Was able to get 1.69 60ft on stock clutch and street tires. It was a PITA even when compared to a 2g. Kinda tight in there. Even worse than 2g. Ended up putting in a Exedy clutch.
As for the clutch......you will find that almost no manufacturer will cover a clutch after 10,000 miles. Especially on a performance car. They are not stupid guys...come on.
A clutch is like brakes....wear item. Why should they fix it under warranty when it's your fault? Even though the motor may be covered to 60k, if you don't change your oil and it dies at 21,000miles....guess what? It's not their fault. Warranties are for defects and workmanship errors only. If they do change it for you, you're lucky and someone is being nice or stupid.
As for the tires....i'll agree they are kinda crappy. But according to the owner's manual, you have to rotate them every oil change or uneven wear will occur. We changed his tires at around 15k as well. Mostly because he rotated them once at 6k and at 15k they had worn badly. Really soft tires. Ended up installing BFG Comp T/A ZR4s and that was the 1.69 60ft. Best on the old tires was 1.74 or so. And the BFGs are rated to 25-30k miles.

yeah we have done 2 of them already. They are fun!!!!!!!!! Just make sure you go with a good clutch. So you don't have to do it again. We used an ATS for Coles EVo. (Carbon Twin Disk). Pretty bad ass when you have to "heat" up your clutch before you launch. haha

is cole the blue evo? whatever happened to him, shane?
-
Cole had a black Evo and Valley could not get it to run after 15,000 miles so they gave him a new white one. they had his car for 5 months and sent it back to Mitsu. this new one is having some of the same issues. He is going to go with AEM and that should fix his "issues".

Which CAI did you go with? From what I can tell the CAI on the STi mounts the same as the WRX and wasn't just too bad...except that you have to remove the fender liner to get the filter on/off. Should be like a 20 min job at most....at least my APS was. -
It was a custom made one SLS ordered from some guy in Japan(never got a name..), the project itself didn't take long, it's just teh fact that kevin was widening a part on the intake with a drill and was holding it with his legs and drilling it and the drill accidentally went through the part to fast and kevin got drilled right into the leg, his pants got all tore up and what not. ugly scene.

My roommate had the blue one, but it was having issues and after Valley had it for a month they finally bought it back, now he has Steve's 98 talon.
