Now y'all know why Eric didn't bring his blue R-32 over here. When he originally contacted MotoRex, they gave him 1 quote. He contacted them a little bit later, and this right when the investigation was really getting to be known to the car community, and they increased his price by a LOT.
I'm willing to bet that if he had taken them up, his car would either still be on MotoRex's property, or seized by the gov't as evidence.
There's either 11 or 12 LEGAL R-34s in the states, and from what I have read, they will stay legal.
I am not sure on how many R-33s or R-32s.
As far as Silvias go, I'm sure y'all know about the various shop cars around the nation that are using S-15s. Not street legal, but they're demo cars. However, there's a guy in my hometown that has a GT-R-32, a GT-R-33, AND (somehow) a legalized S15 Silvia. It read as a Silvia on the VIN, state registration, insurance, etc. and it 's 100% legal. I don't know how the hell he got it over here, seeing as how after this strapdown on MotoRex has fucked a lot of importing laws, esp. regarding OBDII cars such as the S15.
I don't know the whole situation, all I know is that the GT-Rs are riced out b/c he has a lot of money and no taste, and I haven't seen pics of the S15 since they originally recieved it.

BTW, I think Eric's FMIC is fuckin huge:

(The guys from Sat. night at Fargo Tintmasters heard this already, but whatever)
When we were riding into town from the base, I was about 20 minutes ahead of him. Cop passes the other way, so I phone him to let him know. Cop pulls him over b/c he wasn't displaying his tag on the front bumper. (We refiberglassed it that afternoon, it hadn't cured yet) After hearin Eric's reason, he asked why he had such a large radiator.

that thing is huge, looks friggin sweet

thats the same intercooler that i have...it just hangs down cause the previous owner mounted it too low and most bumpers have a stock lip on it and mine for some reason does not...but yeah I will be keeping in touch with the DOT and up to date on the motorex thing. If you guys have any specific questions I can certainly ask and get a straight answer from someone that knows.
and joel i ran a 13.4

That's really too bad..

tony, I just got this email from evolutionimports.com thought you might want to check into it:
We all know this story, everyone tell this story to there kids to make them
goto sleep.when you start looking into the car has to be DOT and EPA
compliant.that all refers when you import a full running car.but the thing
that EPA and DOT wont tell you cause if they did a lot more people will be
douing it.is that an individual is allowed to buy parts and build/assemble a
automobile
Look into this company called 1G racing www.1gracing.com .they sell a britsh
car called the noble. You can buy the noble right from a dealership in
europe.they import the car as componets and have 3 part companies assemble
it.we do the same procedure as them.Frank Mendola

I was thinking the same...sounds like either kit car or salvage title.
-
hmmm....maybe not as its no longer classified as "Production Car"
-
hmmm....we could compete with each other perhaps? j/k

I wouldn't bother trying it, it can always be denied entry or cubed, who knows.
The aussies starting doing the same thing and their whole system came crumbling down and now they can hardly import anything at all and laws are wayy more strict.
Someone has done this with a R34 GTR here and if people keep doing it, they will likely change rules or go to a 25 year law as a penalty.
I can have a car disasembled in Japan for 250,000 yen ($2500ish) but good luck finding someone to agree to ship it and be held liable..
