Just an idea.....

Mike Jones tracks are great if you into drinking Codeine as a extracuricular activity. Thats there main reason for the re-stating and slowed down tracks. The style was perfected by DJ Screw before his death. Funny cause it was the cause of his death...
Every part of the counrty has its own type or claim to hip hop. The southern style is sort of over. He would have been big had his album dropped 5yrs ago. Just that Undergound Indy music has taken lead, kind of contradicting.

sad i guessJeez, never picked brett to be an Eazy-E/NWA fan. Ever hear any of the bootlegged stuff from pre-nwa days like "World Class Wrecking Crew" I don't think Eazy was in WCWC, Dr Dre and Lonzo were in it for sure as was DJ Yella and Cli-N-Tel. Love the old school rap. Kinda funny to re-listen to Sugar Hill Gang's "Rappers Delight" and hear how much of it is still being sampled/referenced on albums today.

Gotta chime in about Eminem here. He is not the best rap artists of all time. He is one of the best (if not the best) rap entertainer that we have seen to date. I really like his older stuff, but when you have a label breathing down your neck (Aftermath) to make money and another label you're trying to get off the ground (Shady Records) you do what you gotta do to sell records. Great musicians often don't get the record sales numbers they deserve. Great entertainers do. It can be argued that nearly every artist who has "reached the top" has sold out at some point in their careers. But those that reached the top realized that this is what "The Game" is all about. Building your career and making a good living. I wouldn't be selling fire alarm systems if I wasn't making more money than I could selling car stereos. I sold out too. Why? I want to provide a good living for my family. I still dabble in car audio, but its not likely that I'll ever go full force into business again. Yeah, I do some stuff on the side, just so I don't get rusty really and it's nice to get a few extra $$$'s in the pocket.

Well, yeah. They did sample the track as it was originally done by Chic titled "Good Times". What I was getting at was they had the first hit as rap artists on the radio with that song. What I was getting at was the fact that a lot of Rap music can be traced back to that song.

and notice, I said sampled/referenced.

Hip Hop as whole is not about a game....
Its about making music to enjoy. The scene was set astray by west coast gangstar cRap for a while. Kool Herc invented it, others recreated there own style. Selling out is one thing but making shity music on played out style is where its not ok. Most artist can't get there style out of 94 and thats what makes them bad.

i think eminem did good through the eminem show. the slim shady lp had "my name is" but that was the only pop song on there. the marshall mathers lp had "the real slim shady", very pop but the only pop song on there. the eminem show had "without me", very very pop but the rest of the album was still the eminem style. encore was his first nearly all pop album and it sold half of what the previous two did.i consider him the best because he's my favorite to listen to. i dont know exactly why but to me it is. i'd give the title of best lyricist to either rakim or nas, the best flow to either 2pac or rakim. he does have the best producer of all time but dre is much better at the west coast sounding beats than the ones he does for eminem.

very true, but i put eminem in both categories up until recentlyi was supposed to be done arguing about eminem, so now i really am

IIRC, he was the last in the line up of the Cold Crush Borthers crew while battling the Fantastic 5 on the basketball court. You even know who Charlie Ahearn is?

"LIL WAYNE IS THE BEST FREESTLER EVER!!!! "(sitn2lo) Where the hell did that come from? he's the best freestler ever? What about,KRS-ONE,TRECH(from naughty by nature),shit man even MC LYTE has better rhymes!?! Im sorry but i dont think "freestyling" isnt about "ice","rims","money"? I mean i even think 2PAC sucked at freestyling, he was a poet though,he expressed his lyrics on paper which is amazing!! Eminem has won numourous "freestyle battles" He ripped CANIBUS a new ass hole! And what about JAY-Z,NAS,BIGGIE. Those are the real freestylers, put anyone of them against "LIL WAYNE and he'll get shreded IMO. Back in the 80's there was SLICK RICK,ROXANE etc....they originated the "freestyle beefs"Im sorry but i dont think FREESTYLING is about what you own,how much ice you got? It's taking adverbs, and adjetives and ripping your other opponient apart!?! I would have to strongly disagree with that decision.Thats just my opinion. And everyone is intitled to their own,but i couldnt justify LIL' WAYNE being the "best ever".
EMINEM,was a genius, he could write, freestyle, and while he was writing his rhymes he would think of the beat at THE SAME TIME!! Thats skill, i dont care who you are. But EMINEM has became soft, And he has ruined his "rep" but i respect him at the same time because he can drop the mic and say he's done with this shit,in order to take care of his family, that takes some balls if u ask me?
Every artist has taken samples of every other artist from ROCK to even ALTERNIATIVE. We have RUN-DMC to thank for that. Look at KANYE WEST he samples all sorts of music from others. I think thats what revolutionized the "HIP-HOP" scene.
Your welcome CAVILERBABE,thanks for the agreement on CHAMILLIONAIRE

Hip hop is based upon sampling. Its origins run alot deeper than Run DMC. It dates back to the 70's where hip hop orginated from buying two records that were the same, and playing them together, creating break beats. Made great by such Dj's as Afrika Bambaataa and DJ Kool Herc. Break beats are a samplings of breaks such as Drums and rythem from generally old soul music. There for Sampling created hip hop, with out it there would not be hip hop.
As for Lil Wayne I dont think IMO and I am sure thousands of others in the hip hop community will agree that and assume he could not Freestyle if his life depended on it. Hip hop is multi-faceted. There are so many different things to it. Most look at it as a rapper on a cd, but thats were it goes all wrong. Its a culture and has become so large that without realizing it there are more sub genres than rock and roll. Everything from Sampling to Break beats to Dj's Emcees, to a whole other part of hip hop culture such as Graffiti art and b-boying. So when you say something like lil Wayne is a the best freestyler I take your opnion very lightly and take into consideration your closed mindedness to hip hop as a whole.

I was not aware that they stole (at least parts of) the song from Grandmaster Caz (until I researched it a bit more), but the beat itself was stolen from Chic http://www.dsng.net/samplesources3.htm http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/05/07/AR2005050700154.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sampling_(music

I actually agree and respect your knowledge on hip-hop 2slo50h. I can admit that you have more knowledge than I do on this subject. What I was originally getting at is that popular rap (today) often (re-)samples or references Sugar Hill Gang.
However, anyone that tells you that they aren't in the music business to make money isn't going to make money either. Why? You need radio play or some other form of publicity (good or bad) to get your name out there. As soon as you go radio everyone calls you a sell-out, but you know what if you want to make a living at it, you might just have to sell out.

Not exacly. Look at the so called local Scene, said by another on the board. Rhymesayers.
Shawn Daily aka slug, has taken the hip hop scene back from the massess and said fuck the industry and not gone the same route, along with alot of other underground MC's. He makes his money on record sales yes, but the only promotion he has is self promotion and I have said it a thousand times the best person to represent yourself is well you. He does shows and tours and has even opened his own record shop, Fith Element in Minneapolis. He has made a name for himself without selling out or having air play. Hes not an exception, look at other such artist such as Aesop Rock and other underground legends they are not in it for the dollar rather just to make some good music.

EMINEM, didnt even want to put out "my name is" and "real slim shady" but the label made him. Only because most of his songs were'nt really "radio materal", and he just followed the bullshit and did what they wanted and in return he got to release on his album some of the most conterversal songs ever written (KIM).All the other artist have to deal with it too. Selling out to me would be someone like XZIBIT, he sold out majorly!! He hada rhyme that stated "refuse to go hollywood, just for the fuck it if y'all dont like it you can suck our dicks" Now look what he does a fucking RIGHT GAURD commercial,PIMP MY RIDE and he even did a few movie apperences along with co-staring in a film with BUSTA RHYMES called FULL CLIP (it sucked by the way). EMINEM also did a movie, but he did it based on the "hip-hop" scene in detroit. He wasnt tryin to do "karate and beat everybody up". Then he came out with his own clothing line "SHADY LTD." and i can understand that they make alot of $$$ of that shit. But the real sell-outs are the ones that think they are "hip-hop" but can really be categorized with BRITNEY,CHRISTINA,AND NSYNC etc....ie:NELLY,JQWON,CHINGY. Those are the ones that sell out.
