the fm transmitter (i-trip) will give you static the same way radio stations cut in and out. I just have an aux. input cord running from the back of my deck to my ipod. This works great for me, havnt had any problems.

iTrips, if your around traffic you pickup other people's iPods (esp. in larger cities), quality is lower.

Best bet is something that is hardwired...

I would just get the iPod Interface Adapter (KCA-420i) for your Alpine deck and have it installed (if I remember right I was quoted at $50 for the install at Best Buy, unit itself is around $100). If you don't want to spend that much the aux. cable would do but then you have to mess around with your iPod while driving, whereas with the adapter you can change songs directly on the deck face.

Best Buy Install bay is the biggest rip off i've ever been to...

They had this free-install promo, so I had a deck purchased there, and I ended up paying close to $200 said and done... it was terrible.

That place is the devil fo real

I don't go to best buy. My friend has a certification in all this stuff. He works there, but he does all my stuff on his own time and charges me little to none to do it.

Nothing wrong with Team at all, if I didn't do my own stuff I'd have Fitzy work on mine. Having said that, going with someone you know isn't all bad either as long as you trust their skills...in reality though, hooking up an I-pod to a deck designed to interface with it is about as easy as it gets...

What model deck is it. The only thing wrong with the KCA420i is that it is confusing to use at first and you don't have the direct access like you do with the click wheel. I have one of these and I love it other than the time it can take to access a song.

I trip isnt bad. I have use one for about a 2years, or so. It has its pros and cons. No batterys needed to run it, runs off your Ipods battery, which in return uses more juice. Never had a prob with picking up other peoples Ipods nor stations in larger towns, Twin Cities and Denver have been fine.

Decided I would hard wire to aux though but sound quality will always suck on a Ipod vs a CD. Make sure if you use it match the volumes of the deck and Ipod, keeping them the same, less distortion.

Another thing is Harmon Kardons new controler which is decent. I have been thinking about getting it until Eclipse decides to figure out WTF they are going to do.

Alpine or Clarions higher end models seem the way to go. Just not for me 😛
