Do you ever wire brush that discoloration off the welds?

Um, no. Coloration indicates a good weld. No reason to remove the coloration when once the car is ran everything will turn a nice color anyways as its stainless steel.

i dont know if coloration indicates a good weld...being its that color because of the heat....although the welds do look really good....either way once its on a running car the whole manifold will be that color anyways...

              pretty nice mani's

That looks good but it will all change back as soon as it gets hot. that was designed for use on Stainless that never sees exh temps.

Coloration of a weld is good. A weld with zero color or that looks black shows contamination of either material, filler, or the tungsten. Again, color = good.

So glad people that have no idea or experience are commenting here, typical!

No color indiciates the weld was either welded to hot or has contamination in it. Heat is irrelevant to the coloration.

                      no experience ...hahahaha

coloration comes from clean, continuous welds...and if you continuously weld...it gets hot...which forms the color!

but what do i know about welding....

Ok now kids, that's enough. This is the tech section. Let it stay that way please. Go play rough in the run your mouth section. That's a far bigger play ground.

                            And Nick, they look marvelous.

I said that coloration comes from a clean continous weld...

....integra gsr ...i've tig welded on aluminum, and some different kinds of steel...i havent made any manifold or anything like nick has....

sure i'll stop by the shop ...run some beads for you just for fun...but you can find someone else to weld for ya.

Got the impression from your comment above.

I dont really know anyone who runs long continous beads, especially on manifolds and piping unless you wanted a distorted and warped piece. What your saying is you need to run a long continous weld to get the material hot in order to create color which is completly untrue and completly and backwards. If what your saying was true the first couple welds would not have any color due to the material not being "hot".

You're always the "know it all" so we'll just leave it @ that. This wasn't a welding 101 post anyways.
