TV deals.

The funny thing is, around here HDTV really doesn't mean shit unless you have satelitte.
We have CableOne Digital, and you have to pay $10 on top of the already outrageous price of digital cable to get like 4 HD channels.
Regular Digital TV looks like shit even with HDMI cables / pure Digital signal to mine.
Depending on what your looking for, I'd go EDTV or just SDTV unless all you watch is DVD movies....
-
What brand/model are you looking for, I can get a few brands as well. Shoot me a PM with whatever you are interested in.
-
Don't waste your time w/ anything other than HD, you'll be wanting it and the cost isn't that great (compared to upgrading in a couple of years). If you'd like a practical look at HD, drop me a PM and you can view it at my house.
Do you want a Tube, LCD, Plasma or Big Screen (DLP)? What size are you looking for?
Keep an eye on Slickdeals.net - they have good deals on LCD TV's...

Cableone only provides a few channels in HD:
Channel Network Description
450 HBO HDTV HBO in HDTV
451 SHOWTIME HDTV Showtime HDTV
452 ESPN HD ESPN in HDTV
453 TMC HD The Movie Channel HD
454 TNT HD TNT in High Definition
470 PBS HDTV KFME PBS in HDTV
490 UNIVERSAL HD Universal HD -
get a projector....they're great!
-
I would question whether or not the CableOne HD channels are true HD or if they're down-converting the 1080 signal... just a thought based on the hardware and infrastructure required to deliver HD - I don't have anything that would prove it is or isnt....
-
It's real HDTV...
You have to buy a different cable box (diffrent then the normal digtal box) for it and shit even if you have the HDTV Tuner in your TV set.
$10 extra a month + Premium channels + digital services + whatever cable usually costs
Huge rip off; if HDTV is what you want, Sat. is def. the way to go right now
Sidenote: you will NOT pickup a high def channel on cable, without Digital service + HDTV tuner box

The edge of my couch is 8 feet away from the edge of where I want the TV. I can't go super huge because I have my speakers/sub/DVD/AMP/RECEIVER/SUB and a fishy tank all to contend with that side of the living room. I have a really nice entertainment stand right now that can fit a TV up to 36 inches across, and I would like to keep that. Right now I have about $1500 worth of audio equiptment surrounding a $60 19 inch hundai special from walmart. A nice 32 inch tube will suit me fine for the next 4 or 5 years. I just need help deciding which one, and what I need to get. EVERYone tells me I need a 16:9 aspec ratio because broadcasts will be changed to widescreen in 2009.
I am so confused on TV's. I don't need a GIANT TV right now. I have other stuff to pay for too (like car stuff...n stuff)

if your going to spend a grand on a tv right now you will be better off buying one with hdtv...even if you dont want to pay for the service right now.
when everything is switched over to hd and all dvds games ect are in hidef you are going to be mad that your thousand dollar tv sucks. -
If your looking for a 16:9 aspect ratio, your going to spend just as much money for a tube TV as you will on a flat panel.
Since you already have all the audio shit, you can find a very good display that only does display for around the price you'd want to pay.

Cnet usually has pretty good reviews to base your decision on.
Another sidenote: not all HDTV's are created equal; some display higher resolution 1080p, not 1080i. I guess what have you to ask yourself is, are you going to be dropping the money on the next gen DVD style format (which ever wins), what screen resolution are you going to be happy with, and how much does picture quality matter to you. Best way to decide is to go view some side by side, and make the call if its worth the extra money or not.

theres a 30'' widescreen HDTV at best buy for $449 i think...i know its the insignia brand but let me tell you, i bought one of their cheap 5 dvd 6.1 Prologic II/DD All-in-one surround sound things and I thought it would be cheap and lacking features, but it pretty much covers everything id ever want....and everything works great, sounds great, and seems like its every bit as good as other shit...i was looking at a standalone receiver with an auxiliary DVD player that cost about $100-200 more and i got recommended to stay with the insignia...

If you're interested, you could stop by my place, I have a 34" 16:9 HDTV (Toshiba). You can check out the clarity and size it up.... They're running just under a grand now....
I don't know what I want. I don't know if a grand is really worth it for a 34" TV. I have some deciding to do. -
i got a hidef a few weeks ago and an upconversion dvd player and i wouldnt have it other any way. my only complaint is i wish i would have gone plasma... the glare off your windows at five or six at night is irritating.
