shift linkage

I have a bigger exhaust piping and a short shifter in my car. My shift linkage hits the exhaust making it harder to get into 5th gear and reverse. i was thinking that i could just trim down the part of the shift linkage that hits but dont no if that would hurt anything or not. any ideas other wise ill just deal with it.

you could just get longer exhaust hangers. there like $5 each at national muffler. just replace your rubber hangers with these and problem solved. you will have less ground clearance.
