building another motor
-
So me and my brother took out my motor this weekend so i could put springs and retainers in and also to put some rods in the block and figured out my motor was bad. we were just hoping to freshen up the motor but we realized that one cylinder was scored and there was piston slap. The good thing is we already have a block sitting at the shop. So all im going to have to do is order up some new pistons because i got a good set of eagle rods. The other good news is im just going to have to make it better than before and i will have a fresh motor for race season. This car better go fast or im giving it away.

It wont, its a DSM and they suck. Buy a Honda and save the headaches.

I don't think he should waste his time using used pistons in a motor that's going to be all rebuilt anyways. If the cylinder walls are scored and a piston was slapping around, it's almost guaranteed that the piston is no good also. I haven't seen them in person, but that's my guess.

The pistons aren't slapping around, my guess is it just just bored w/ extra piston to wall clearance. The cyl walls are perfectly fine except cyl one has a score in it from when the TB broke and the screw got in there, all in all its really not going to affect much. Personally i'd hone it and reassemble it w/ the rods and a set of rings. Motor only has maybe if even 5k on it.
