I have an 84 ranger with the 2.8.

it has the most ass backwards way of ignition/carburation control called EEC-IV.

I found a simple way to convert it to electric ignition here-
http://www.bronco.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Mods.HomebrewHEI
I am using a single vac. adv. distributor from a 79 pinto, chevy HEI unit, and a Accel super stock coil. whole thing cost just over $100.

Also getting a rebuilt Motorcraft 2150 carb since my stock one sucks

if you have seen what the engine bay looks like on one of these trucks, you might of noticed the rats nest of vaccum lines and ignition wiring. this will elliminate all of that plus the vaccum rail, canister, and computer.

hopefully this will increase my gas milage from 10-sh to mid to high teens

Goodluck, the older ford ignition systems suck to work with, either modifying or repairing.

I've worked on some older Fords, it's actually quite easy.

Ya, unless someone converts from fuel injection to carb, then its a pain in the ass, especially trying to find parts used or even remanufactured.
