Good buy/Bad buy

So this is the Hatch that I noted earlier in my Flying lip post. I am so close to buying it, but I want to know what you guys think. Would this be a good project or would it take more money than it's worth. There are a couple others that already run and are in the 3-4 G's range but they don't have all the extra parts. They are for the most part straight stock. I just want a clean hatch, but at what cost you know what I mean?

Ok, well I guess I will see what I can't do about getting my bid retracted. I have a 730 bid on there and the way that it looks it doesn't look like it's going to go up any higher than 560.Good thinking

or register for a lost title...

I noticed a few others that are super clean and may possibly go with those assuming I can make ends meet.

Here's a pretty sick DSM that's been modded a little. I have a bid of 5500 on it and there is 11 hours left on it. Of course a car like this isn't going to go for 5200 so I probably won't win it...

That car needs a transmission rebuild and a tune. It was running on a SAFC which is just a bandaid. The fact that it needs a syncro tells me that it has been beaten on, especially considering the fact that it has 88k. The seller also says that it has some engine problems. I wouldn't buy it, but thats just me. I would look for something that doesn't have any problems.

DSM's aren't something that you tinker with, it is a full time job, or you have to have a full time job to pay for someone else to tinker with them.

Well, I'm looking for a bit of a project that I can tinker with and that seems like a good base. How much would a syncro and a lifter cost me and what is involved in replacing one?Valvetrain stuff is pretty easy if you know what you are doing. Why did the lifter go out though?
As far as the transmission, I am not sure how much that would cost. Unless you have a garage and are mechanically inclined, you will need to have someone else replace that syncro.

Regardless, you are looking at a car that has been flogged hard. For a tranny to have a syncro going out at only 88k means that it hasn't been treated nicely. It just seems to me that you are buying someone else's problems. If you are willing to put the money and time into it to fix it right, thats great. Do remember though, a car like that will be a money pit and you will have to put in a lot of time to fix it.
