When we were using it yesterday we found a metal spike and wooden post on the side of a road, let me say that would be EXTREMELY deadly if you were hit by either of them...or a potato for that matter.

4.5" for a softball? That'd be a spendy gun! I saw some sweet guns that used the clear PVC, the ignition and firing look awesome!

why not just go for a baseball instead would probally get more power that way to plus then if your feeling like being safe can just shoot a good ol tennis ball instead

I can shoot a tennis ball out of this...We cut tennis balls in half and use them as plugs to make it into a shotgun.

We used to have one of them laying around somewhere's, it was fun as hell, and we have quite a few dents in the pole barn from it, but now we have a dozen or so cannon's to play with, everything from .22cal up to bout the size of a golfball. We have a 1.75" with a bullet mold, and my dad has been turning out a few .50 cal ones as well. We have one that fits a 12ga wad perfectly and were shooting dimes through an old fridge one night. I'd put up pics but they're back home.

me and some friends had an idea of using compessed air, like have a valve stem on the bottom with a air valve right before the barrel. we thought you could maybe get more power that using an ignition...? anyone ever heard of this

^ I guess a cousin of mine built one like that a couple years, it had a big chamber under it for the air, and a valve for a firing mechanism. I was told it worked better than one using a propellant and spark. I never got to actually see it and dont remember all the specs on it (he told me but it's been a while), as it had blew up on him and I dont think he ever made another after that, and I only go up there once a year. The pieces from it tore up his shoulder pretty bad and neck too, another inch or so and it could have killed him, so start off small and work your way up, lol.

Eventually I plan on making a completely metal one from scraps. Weld it all together and have a remote detonator so I can "safely" use much more explosive materials like gas/propane/gunpowder. Just finding affordable scraps that are the right size is going to be the hard part.

we were gonna test the max psi of the pvc pipe to see what is the maximum safe pressure of the pvc and then do the air powered one

Pneumatic guns work better they are more reliable then gas powered ones. There are some pretty sweet videos of huge pneumatic potato guns blowning stuff up. I did a report on potato guns in like 8th grade. :icon_thumleft: i need to fix my gun it kinda melted.
