Ok, I'm gonna chime in on this too...
- I go off-topic. There, I said it.
- It would be more enjoyable if the OT posts stayed in the OT section.
- I come here for both the drama (good for a laugh or two) and the tech (as little as there is)
- It is hard sometimes to tell when someone is giving someone shit or if they are being serious. As a rule of thumb I assume everyone is giving someone else shit if in doubt.
- There aren't enough projects going on in this town for everyone to be on topic all the time.
- There are sites that do stay more on topic www.nasioc.com, www.wrxhackers.com are two that I can think of off the top of my head, I'm sure there are others that do as well BUT they are more in tune w/ a larger geographical area than one a town of what 150,000? (including suburbs...I dunno, just guessing there). They are probably in areas that are not so dominated by musclecars so there are more people w/ imports or sport compacts. It's hard to get it out of your head that there are more than 3 major car companies in the USA when you are brought up Ford/Dodge/Chevy...unfortunately some people never even give imports a chance around here because they are raised that way.
- Like others have said, noone is forcing anyone to come to fargostreet.
- Having said all of the above, it would be nice if this site would mature a bit.

I know there's a half a dozen other people on here who's views are the same as mine but nobody is gonna open their mouths. I think the only other person who helps me try keep shit on track and says something about all the BS is Blake.
How about some of you who dont thread whore anbd who actually use this board for useful information post up w/ your view on this and your $.02. Wes? Troy? Cartman? Tjamz? Dave? Matt?
I know Cartman and Troy run the Minot board and they seem to keep everything under control just fine.

I've been asking myself now since i entered this market working @ Type R man idk 6 years ago when Fargo will start to expand and when the scene will explode. Based off what i've seen here over the past year i know why it isn't. If no one pushes for a change or tries to make a difference in how things get run or how are scene is portrayed it never will change for the better.

I think you're missing the point here Kirk. I don't think tufte has ever said he doesn't get sucked into an OT post or two now and then (I can probably find numerous posts where he has). The thing is that now and then would be fine. We all have smartass comments we like to make, mainly because we all know each other and can give each other shit. Sometimes we just need to learn some restraint (myself included) and try to keep things on topic. The hardest part is when someone goes OT and then asks a direct question to someone else. That gets that person involved in the OT thread as well and before you know it the whole thread has bloated beyond what the original poster intended.

Oh and nick... who is the asshole that flames everyone on the boards for bench racing? Or flames them for stating what a part or a turbo kit or nitrous can do for their car. Who is the asshole that tells them to do it... when in fact they were simply stating that nitrous can get them around this time, or a turbo kit can get them around this certain horsepower. Who is the asshole that acts like he knows everything about every car in the world and makes fun of people or flames them for even trying to say something about a car.
Oh yeah YOU... perhaps its you that needs an attitude change because your not the only shop in fargo and your shit certainly does stink as bad as ours.

Shops working TOGETHER to promote the scene here in town. Whether it be shows, dragraces, autox, whatever. I'm sure not all of the shops in Mpls get along super well w/ each other, but it seems that they manage to put that aside to host one big show a year (autovations) where all the shops are present (though propulshun is the main host).
Better would also be people actively trying to IMPROVE the image of the sport compact crowd by not fucking around when driving on city streets (out in the country is one thing, but its WAAAAAAYYYY too visible when we weave in and out of traffic in town and blow through stoplights and stuff).
Better would be not cocking off to V8 owners, lets face it, a lot of them are the generation just above me (35+). Sure, they call us rice burners and whatnot...be the bigger man, ask them to come to the track and watch some of us "riceburners" and see if their opinion changes. It will never change if we are cocky, we will always sound like little immature kids that don't know any better if we talk shit back to them.
Decent car clubs. Wouldn't it be great if different car clubs could get along and actually organize some events together? Whether it be a cruise, a race night, a BBQ, whatever. Right now all the clubs seem to have beef w/ the other clubs in town. So as soon as you make 15 new friends in one club you alienate 50 other people (and sometimes shops too) just by joining.

O.K. here goes. Everyone that has posted on this IS RIGHT. All are valid points. Heres the big problem. This site is very young and it hasn't matured as fast as some of us (including me) would like. I absolutely WILL NOT dissagree with anyone on here on there views of this site. But I will lean to Nicks side on the post whoring. If someone asks a tech ? or even a simple one, it seems to turn into a flaming contest. It doesnt matter which forum it is either. AND I'M JUST AS GUILTY AS THE NEXT GUY FOR GETTING CAUGHT UP IN THE BULLSHIT FROM TIME TO TIME!! This site does however need moderators, and as it grows which I hope it does that need will be greater. Something that I know that Jim wont be able to do alone. From what I've read so far, it would seem that even Jim and Nick can't come to an agreement. That's something I thought that I would never see put into writing on the site. I don't live in Fargo-Moorhead either. I live here in good ol Fergus Falls. And if you thought the street scene in Fargo sucked, boy I've got an eye-opener for you. It's alot better there than here. There has been plenty I've learned from the site since it's inception and have meet a number of people since from the area since. half of which I never would have met had the site not existed. Now maybe I'm stepping overboard in say that I also wouldnt know the other half of the people without Nick and Kevin at SLS and I feel that Nick has contributed to the site as well as the scene in a positive way. In a perfect world this discussion wouldn't have taken place. But reality check time. THIS SITE CAN'T BE EVERYTHING TO EVERYBODY ALL THE TIME. I really feel for Jim in the fact that now he's got to make a decision on where to take the site from here. But the one thing that noone seems to want to do is HELP CHANGE THE SITE. It would relieve alot of tension if we all refrained from blurting in a post whenever we feel like. If we have nothing constructive to say on that certain post, then don't post a Fucking thing. that's what the run your mouth section and chit chat were designed for. Why should Jim and Nick be the ones stuck with babysitting everyone on here. Maybe we should try policing ourselves a little. And I mean you police yourself not each other. Ands like I said before, I'm just as guilty as the next guy.

The only flame war i recall getting into was over the AFC vs Chip use. When in fact the guy arguing the AFC was not the right way to go had never in fact used one. I am not saying anyone will be affected by me leaving. But if all of us who have been in this indusrty just got fed up and stepped out then this would be 100% full of BS and HS pissing matches. SOme of us like to grow out of that and mature a little and try provide positive information and help the indusrty grow. Where as most like to come on here and make a joke of it, rip on someone, rip on somebody's car. All in all it reminds me of the elementary school days of "my dad can beat up your dad".
