People who don't live in/near fargo often refer to it as DL. People who live in Devils Lake call it DL as do most who live within 100 miles of it. Now, people who have moved here from say, Harvey/Rugby/other places near Devils Lake may call it Devils Lake so as to not confuse others when holding a conversation.

I was just gonna say 'Dumb Southerners refer to Devil's Lake as DL.'

But I guess a proper response would be:

'Dumb Southerners stationed at Grand Forks AFB that have to drive by the 'Devil's Lake-76 miles' sign every day call it DL.'

I think that is more appropriate.

I don't know why I'm defending my home region, but in the Langdon area everyone referred to Devil's Lake as DL. I didn't know what or where Detroit Lakes is when I moved to Fargo.
