I just recently realized that my car has two different tire sizes on the front. Fleet Farm put them on if that has anything to do with it. The two back one's have 195's and the front has one 195 and a 215. Is that possibly the reason that my tranny went out? Or is it going to couse other problems???? I have heard yes and no. Gunna make them give me a new tire regardless but I want to know if that's the reason that my tranny went out. Didn't notice any radical pulling while driving. Let me know what you think.

Depnds on what exactly went out in the trans to begin with. The different sizes will definately have an effect on the differential in the trans. But, there may have been other factors in what happend. IT will be hard to prove that this is what caused your problem but it is a possibility.

Oh, and this should be in the TECH section. Thread moved.

Ya I just realized that after I posted. I had the tires put on last winter and drove it all winter since like december/January and went about a month or month and a half of driving on completely dry roads then started slipping and eventually lost overdrive and had to run in 3rd. I just talked to a buddy that works at Fleet Farm and said that I could deffinately get a new tire out of the deal but we need to figure out if the size difference is what caused the tranny to go out for anything else.

I went online to napaparts.com and checker and couldn't exactly find a kit. need to know exactly what I would need or get in a kit if anyone possibly have done this before it's a 96 sunfire 2.2 4-speed auto(gay!!)

Actually go into Napa. They will have it. Oh and rebuilding an auto tranny is not for the faint of heart. You had better know your shit if you plan on tackling it yourself. Good luck.

No I don't know what you'll need nor price. Ideally, it would be benificial to know remove and dissasemble it to see exactly what is damaged to determine whether the tranny is actually worth fixing or not. If the diff has damage, you'll want to get a different tranny as you wont get that from any parts store.

cool thanks man we are gunna tare into it in sept. like I said and see whats all wrong. the last time it went out I had hazers put a used one in and I don't think that he put a new torque convertor in, I have been told you NEED to do that... not to mention the fact it was WAY OVER PRICED but didn't know that at the time and will never deal with them again. In my opinion they are crooked as hell.

You could also check salvage yards for recently wrecked sunfires, I know there out there, and maybe pick up the whole tranny or even try a 5 speed swap, who knows.
Just something I thought I'd throw out there.

I wanted to do a 5-speed swap because I hate automatics but I heard it's not worth it. Easier and cheaper to sell this and buy a 5-speed but then again once I sell this i'm not going back to a sunfire or cavi for that matter
