Lasso sucks.. copy the layer and mask what you don't want changed (ie: headlights/background/windows/trim, or what you don't want paitned on the body). Add in a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer and attach it to the layer for the new color, and then re-open the hue/saturation and tweak the hue. Tis how I've always done it.. probalby not the best way, but it works.

damn. ive tried it on a couple different cars now and i think my way is by far the most ghetto. i just made a couple new layers, used a brush to paint over whatever it was i wanted painted, then changed the opacity to make the different parts match. lowering the opacity at least lets the shading come through fairly well.

I disagree. Photoshop is all about selection. You can never use Photoshop to its fullest w/o being good at selection.

Layer mask's work ok, but there are better ways then layer masks.

I Lasso the body and parts I want and add and subract from my selection untill I get what I want. Then I make a 1 pixel feather to make it a little soft and to get rid of the "Cut" Look. After that I save my selection so I do not have to re-select.

After that I get every thing on the layers I want and start my changing.

I will do a wright up on color change later and I will sticky it.

Ok so I get how to workt the lasso an what not , but is there an easier way to lasso the whole body instead of following the lasso all the way around the car and all the curves??

It all depends on what your trying to grab in what picture. I use the stright line lasso tool most of the time.

open the new picture your going to be using with the rims, wings or whatever and lasso around the image (loosely to get all of it) then copy it and paste it on your picture....and delete any excess picture like unwanted backround and fit it to the car using Transform.(this is what i do anyway)

Use the polyganic lasso, much easier and if you right click it while usin the one you manually do, you start over.
