No it doesn't make sense. It's poisonous but not in the quantities everyone is getting their undies in a bunch over. People used to come into contact with LARGE amounts of mercury all the time and have suffered no ill consequences. People ingest mercury every time they eat tuna. Shutting down/quarrantining a building because of a spill the size of 1/2 a penny is FUCKING STUPID.

I know WTF? I think they said a thermometer was broken on the news, so I'm thinking, how fucking big is this thermometer that they have to shut down the whole school and call hazmat?

Sterling Archer: Oh my god! You killed a hooker!
          Cyril Figgis: Call girl!
Sterling Archer: No Cyril! When they're dead they're just hookers!

We used to break open thermometers and play with the Mercury back in HS. Aside from that most tooth fillings had mercury in them up through the early 1990's. And yes, fish has a fairly high concentration. I thought the shutdown was total bs...sounds like the kids now have a way to completely shut down a school now...throw a thermometer down the hall and watch it explode.

This was extremely gay. I was just about to leave when the principle said the school was in a lock down. Everyone was stuck in their hot ass class rooms for almost an hour extra. A friend of mine left during the lockdown and he almost got expelled, how stupid is that.

i dont understand why the whole school had to be in a lockdown. why couldnt they have just locked down the one room or just taken care of the two or three people that may have come into contact with the mercury. bassplayer, you shouldve just walked down to the auto class area and walked out. im sure you couldve come in contact with some more dangerous stuff down there than a drop of mercury.

The cops blocked off all the exits in the parking lots and school officials were at all the exits. The problem was the thermometer broke almost 2 hours before it was reported, so there was the "possibility" that it had been transfered around the school. And yeah just today I cleaned shit in the parts washer, I'm pretty sure thats alot more dangerous than a drop of mercury..

if it took 2 hours, i have a feeling it wasnt "reported". my guess is a student said something about a thermometer being dropped in class within earshot of the wrong employee and that person went to the office and had a panic attack.
