Ask the DMV they have all the info you'll need.

no no no. the car the guy bought was suppose to be a "parts car" but he never did anything with it. the only problem with the car was that it has a snapped timing belt, and i have a spare complete head so will just swap all of my parts.

btw the car is a 92 awd talon

edit: didnt see capitlj's post..yeah i am going to go to the dmv and court house this week sometime ans see if i can work things out.

u will need a bill of sale from the person you bought it from, and apply for a duplicate title, along with a signature from the guy who's name is on the title.
That is, if the car isnt stolen.

well the guyi am buying the car from bought the car with no title, so it would be hard to get the guys signature who had the title. i guess i could run a car fax but that doesnt always show all the past owners does it?

oh and i went to the dmv, they sent me to the county treasure, i asked them and they said gave me some bull shit about the owner needed to provide me with a title, but they sounded like they didnt know shit from shanola..

Then DMV well have to give you info on how to do it. there is a way to do it. Go to them and listen to what they say. Nobody on here works for the DMV, at least that I know of.

Also swapping VINs is not a smart thing to do. The fines/jail time is not worth it.

the dmv in aberdeen is different to where you get you your liscence plates, you have to go to the treasure office for that

DMV should be able to give you the forums and stuff. This is registering a vehilce. So go to where you do that.

I don't know how it is in SD but I know in ND or MN its impossible to get a title for a car. I have tried it once and gave up after a year. Basically the easiest way is to find the last registered owner and get them to apply for a duplicate title, but the dmv will not give you that info unless you know someone who works there. You can also go through a title service but that costs over a grand.

I tried it on a 97 Trans Am convert, I baught without a title from a wrecking yard, ended up parting it out after because the state wouldn't issue registration without a title signed over to me from the previous owner. Basically up here there is no way to obtain a title if you do not knwo who owned it. Only exception is cars like 30+ years old that haven't had current registration within like 15 years.

oh well thats gay, i think i am going to try and contact the previous owner of the car, if that doesnt work i found a different one in mn for the same price.

Back when I first started driving, I'd pick up a beater from the next door neighbor who would sometimes have "junk" cars on hand. Usually they didn't have titles, so I would apply for a lost title in the spring through the DMV, takes a few months for the paperwork, and by fall I'd have it titled and ready to go for the winter. Been a number of years since I did that so I don't remember specific details, but I got all the info I needed from the DMV on how to do it, so you should be able to do the same.

Isn't there still bonded titles? You pay like $60, if anyone claims it they get the value of the car, if no one claims it after 5 years or something, you get the $60 back. It's been a decade since I had to do that, I don't remember the exact details and that was in Minnesota.
