No, Audi did not put K04s in any US market S4s.

That said, the euro market RS4 used K04s, and K04s are a popular swap for US S4 owners.

As far as I know, K04s are not standard on any US vehicle from VW/Audi.

alright, and do you know what year it was when they put different oil return tubes in the turbos, i read that the earlier turbos were prone to failure because of lack of lubercation due to the oil return tubes being to small?

I don't know that information. You can use the ETKA or ETOS (VW/Audi parts catalog system) to determine part # changes / supercession information, or call valley imports. I don't have it installed on any machines currently, but it can be found on a few bittorrent sites.

My understanding is that the S4 turbo failures mostly came from people modding the cars. The K03 seems failure prone, but then again, it's ubiqoutous in VW/Audi applications so it may statistically be a reliable part. Also oil-sluding claimed a large number of K03s in 1.8T applications from people using poor oil or OCIs.

The Audiworld.com B5 S4 board probably knows more than you could ever want about this, and has a searchable archive.
