OK, let me clarify... Do the engine mounts match or are they close enough to fab custom mounts? Will the output/flexplate interface with the transmission input at all? Is the Ford engine relatively the same length as the Mazda engine bay or is it much longer/shorter cause the boreXstroke is possibly completely different? Will custom parts be expensive? Where will you get them? Do the custom parts have to be drilled and tapped to metric specs on one side and USstandard specs on the other? Has anyone done this before?

The point I was trying to make is that this swap may not be as simple as swapping one Honda engine for another in a Civic, the PCM is really the least of the obstacles presented, and that may involve a custom board and program rather than just a re-flash. This is putting an '85 Ford into a '90-somthing Mazda. On Cybertron, the Ford trying to get inside this cute little Mazda would be considered a dirty old man, and there would be questions about whether or not this was considered Statutory Robot Rape.

KidSupreme asked about thoughts on the swap, and I spoke up. But I'll shut up now since I'm obviously a just a stupid git.

I think what zbrown was pointing out is that everyone knows he needs engine management. Do you really think a 2.3 is a closely related cousin of the 1.6. I know ford and mazda have worked together, but seriously, be realistic. There will need to be custom mounts, custom flexplate or different trans, possibly a custom driveshaft.
The v8 thing is a lot of unneeded torque, the car weighs 2100 pounds guys, the power levels and powerband of a turbocharged 4 cylinder matches the miata chassis perfectly. Shit, the cars are fun to drive with the stock 98 rwhp...
The Miata's 1.6 liter B6 is a closely related motor to the b6t from the 323 GTX turbo. The higher compression N/A version reacts to boost quite nicely.
My build will be a Turbonetics t3 super 60@14-16 lbs, Megasquirt PnP, and wider tires. Shooting to make 240 by June 1st

Yup, obviously when I mentioned that he needs to get custom engine mgmt, it was so obvious that all he needed to do was "tweak" the Mazda computer a little bit. It's not like I was trying to point out that it wasn't as simple as calling the local corner parts store and picking up a "one-size-fits-all" tune.

I can see it now: "Hi, I need a custom tune and a PCM to make a old Ford engine run in a Mazda that's 10 years newer." "No problem, we got 4 of 'em! -And you don't even need to dyno or anything, only nOOb's need that for such a cross-company, international, custom job. But really you can just plug the USB port from any new cellphone into your PCM and make Wookie noises into the receiver, that will write you a great tune. Make noises like a Shetland Terrier for a more aggressive tune, but you'll need to run premium fuel for that."

I think most intelligent people knew that I was suggesting a dyno and custom tune to make his Ford engine run in the Mazda and even send info to his stock Mazda cluster, even with that difference in years. I was pointing out that it might get a bit spendy with writing the code and all, to the point that it could be a complete project killer considering his budget. At least I responded with something constructive, rather than "That post is stoooopid"

FYI - intelligent means smart, sorry if I exceeded your vocabulary, oops, sorry again.

And get your own SNAPpy comebacks instead of stealing mine waving it around flacidly.

Yeah your intro thread was very "constructive", and about as intelligent as your last post.

do you know anything about complicated engine swaps? OR we could just ask what do you know?.... that seems like a better place to start... because from what i have read so far... you like to over complicate things... there are kits out there for a 2.3, and if people are swapping the 5.0 into them in sure a 2.3 would fit... and in a case like this you dont reprogram the miata ECU... you make a wiring harness to fit the 2.3 ECU( not that hard) and make it work with the swap car ( reprograming, resistors, you get the point)... comments? i can do this all day... so please, at least do a google search before you reply, and inform yourself about these sortof swaps so i dont have to point out the obvious... as you clearly need done...

do you know anything about complicated engine swaps? OR we could just ask what do you know?.... that seems like a better place to start... because from what i have read so far... you like to over complicate things... there are kits out there for a 2.3, and if people are swapping the 5.0 into them in sure a 2.3 would fit... and in a case like this you dont reprogram the miata ECU... you make a wiring harness to fit the 2.3 ECU( not that hard) and make it work with the swap car ( reprograming, resistors, you get the point)... comments? i can do this all day... so please, at least do a google search before you reply, and inform yourself about these sortof swaps so i dont have to point out the obvious... as you clearly need done...

was this projected at me or the nooby... If so I know that there are kits for v8's, and I know people do 2.3's, but there is no need for these swaps other than shock factor of opening your hood. A LSx or a 302 isn't a wise choice, IMHO, To compliment the miata's inteded pusposes.... Altho a tube fram miata dragster with a beefy v8 in it would be sweet, or you could go with a 6 liter jag v12 like brainsboy on Miata.net...

Joel I do belive your wrong about the LSx swap. Those engines are nearly the same weight as the 1.6 in there. You loose nearly none of the cars handling capabilities. They are just an expensive and involved swap to do properly. So it's not for the faint of heart.
