Actually if you do want to check out some great Japanese bands, I really like "HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR" (yes, that is the way it is capitalized).

The t0rr3ntz and youtube will know a bit about them. They're J-Rock with some pretty respectable drumming and guitar work, and a female singer.

Normally I don't like female vocalists but when they're singing in Japanese I rarely understand, I can pretend they're not whining about being women.

Basically, I'm not always in the mood to liste to death metal, so it's nice to have something a bit more upbeat, and with a pretty japanese voice instead of cookie-monster style death metal vocals

Maybe I'm listening in the wrong places, but my impression is that it's very hard to get attention/airtime in the US if you're any good at guitar playing. In Japan you basically cannot have a tv show or video game without some ridiculous guitar shredding in the background. Marty Friedman (guitar virtuouso, formerly of Megadeth) now lives in Japan with his Japanese wife and is on like 3-4 weekly TV shows.
