Car check up

Does anyone know a good place in town that is recommended for a check up on your car? There's something wrong with my friend's car so he wants to find a good place to do check up/tune up to his car but don't know a good place in town.
A whole lot of place give you bull shits or even fuck it up some more than tell u later "yeah this shit is broken and you need to pay this and that to fix it.."
So yeah... any place that you guys would recommend to check up?
